Default Off topic but sad news

We lost Robert Osborne today. The original host on Turner Classic Movies, he was 84 years old.

Loved his passion for movies and the great little tidbits he shared with all of us.

Will miss his smile and warmth.

Hi Smaugone,

He's the one who got me to appreciate and love silent movies.

84 years is a long life on earth for a human. He will be remembered for all he's done to honor the history of classic movies over the years. I imagine he likely covered some of the films that were intended for 3D as well. Rather than be sad, we can celebrate that he used his limited time on earth to the fullest, offering his memorable contribution to film history through TCM.

Robert Osborne has been the host on Turner Classic Movies since its inception in 1994, in large part due to his deep and abiding love and knowledge of film.

The silent era of cinema is the essence of Marvel's films today...I think. Charlie Chaplin for example was the silent 'Deadpool' of his time.

* Bill Paxton recently had a stroke, only 61, very sad too.

Are you for real?! The reason that those Keaton/Chaplin movies were so great was because it was all performed for real, by World Class physical performers able to express the boundaries of their imagination through the toolbox that is cinema.

The Marvel movies borrow some stuff but most of the good stuff in those films is animated and never really stretches the imagination.

I can't believe you're comparing a genius like Chaplin with Ryan Renalds et al!

Michael Keaton - 'Birdman'

Oh yeah, I'm for real, more real than reality.
______

Today we live in a huge mess, in the silent era they were using a pianist sometimes.
No Dolby Atmos back then.

You must be young too?

Hi Ricky,

Won't get into the debate but those keystone, sennet, Arbuckle and other shorts were so funny. People don't appreciate the art of pantomime and slapstick.

I still think the Ramon Navarro Ben Hur to be superior to the Charlton Heston classic because the actors had to express in emotion what they couldn't in words. So less character development but more story to follow.
