The Canyons Blu-ray

Quote:
When Christian, an LA trust-fund kid with casual ties to Hollywood, learns of a secret affair between Tara and the lead of his film project, Ryan, he spirals out of control, and his cruel mind games escalate into an act of bloody violence.
This film currently has my vote as worst film of the year.

the first 6 or so trailers that came out for this made this look atrocious, but the last trailer after they found distribution made it look ok.

I like Ellis' stuff, but I'm still skeptical

This was like one of those late night movies you'd find on Cinemax about murder and sex only with weaker sex.

I'm surprised that Warner is not releasing this as part of their Janes Dean Collection.

Oh, wait...

The filmmakers should have eliminated any artistic pretense and just called it "Lindsay Lohan's Canyons".

This is movie is hilariously bad. It's the most pretentious film I have ever seen from people who aren't talented. I can't believe Paul Schrader, a once great director, did this crap.

I thought for a $250,000 movie it was decent. Noy great by any means, but sometimes train wrecks are fun to watch. It easily held my attention more than overblown pretentious garbage like Man Of Steel. But I still won't buy it. It's just too bad Bret Easton Ellis is such a one-note, hackneyed writer.

The best scene of the movie is where Nolan Funk is in the store that had all those blu-rays.

"Detention" was in the new releases

This movie was dreadful. It was like watching a censored porn movie…

I haven't seen the film but the story on its troubled production (published in the New York Times earlier this year) is likely far more interesting than anything on-screen.

It had some of the worst acting you'll ever see, none of them would get a part in a high school play. The guy playing the producer was apalling, it was like he was reading from cue cards.

I also bet the fact that Sundance wouldn't touch it is indicative of its quality (and this is the same festival that played Hell Baby in competition).

They also played the first V/H/S, which was awful but not nearly as bad as this movie.

I did not care for this, unfortunately. The final theatrical trailer was gorgeous though.

I would go so far defending the movie by saying that Paul Schrader was trying to make a point in very deliberately making it so nasty and unentertaining... it's just a shame it's so nasty and unentertaining.

You don't quite have the grasp on how that works yet do you?

I've been to that store in LA, I thought it looked familar once I saw the movie section. I bought the Juno vinyl there ahaha and also found a region 2 copy of Nowhere. Haha. It's an amazing store, cannot believe they actually filmed there, I actually paused the film to see if there were any Lindsay Lohan films in view.
