Default How likely are these anime to be released on bluray?

Excited to see that Deathnote is finally coming to bluray on Dec 1, but was wondering if we can expect these other shows to get a bluray release with a dub?

Gundam Wing
G Gundam
Gundam Seed
Bleach
Naruto
Big Windup!
Neon Genesis Evangelion

I dont know about Bleach. I remembered talking about it with BigOnAnime. I doubt it will be released on Blu ray, maybe only after its last arc is animated, which not may start until a few years later. - Half Likely

Long running shows seems hard to determine, especially now, since HxH was picked up. Fairy Tail has been releasing. I wonder if Gintama will be picked up, but its not as popular.

I know many of the other forum members here have blu rays for the other following shows, but i dont think they were US releases.

Im surprised Dragonball hasnt gotten one yet, considering its sequel has one. - More unlikely

Trigun, i dont know why. - Half likely

Mobile Suit Gundam-Already out. It will forever be missing an episode due to Tomino being Tomino.

08th MS Team-Not sure if that has hit BD yet in Japan. I haven't been keeping up.

Gundam Wing-Already out in Japan, will be hitting NA in early 2016.

G Gundam-Will most likely hit here.

Gundam Seed-Same as above, though it'll probably be the "remastered" version.

Bleach-Never, too long, and Japan's care for Bleach is nearly zero at this point. There's a reason the show ended (It got ratings worse than late-night anime for a primetime slot)

Naruto-Unlikely

Big Windup!-Available in Japan for S2 (S1 may come as it was a big hit-19K average on disc), highly unlikely to come over here. S1 was a massive bomb for FUNimation (The "I'll wait for a cheaper box set." mindset killed the sales that mattered according to FUNi), unsurprising given sports anime almost always bomb really hard in NA.

Neon Genesis Evangelion-Already out in Japan, will hit NA eventually.

Trigun-Unlikely due to how unpopular Trigun was in Japan. FUNi does have BD rights, but won't do anything unless they can use the film. I'd rather see a proper remaster than an upscale, especially since FUNi's release looks worse than the Geneon singles from 2000, and are apparently more interlaced. Hell, look how it compares to Japan's release.

Mongolian Chop Squad-Already out in Japan, unlikely to come over here. And I have no idea if the upscale is any good or not.

Kenichi the mightiest deciple-Unlikely to hit BD.

Barakamon-Will come out here eventually.

Dragonball-Could happen.

Dragonball GT-Same as above.

Never realized Beck had a blu-ray release in Japan. How did it sell in the US? Beck is one of my all time favorite shows and would love a blu-ray release for it upscale or otherwise.

I think it did ok for awhile in America but dropped in sales when it got the name changed to remove Beck from the title(Funimation trying to avoid a lawsuit with the musician with the same name, but seriously doubt a lawsuit would have happened anyways). Did eventually get the S.A.V.E. release which is never good.

good to know about some of those! Shame some of those will never get a BD relase I would be happy with DVD quality as long as they put it in a bluray case with labels and everything!

IIRC, Beck was released by Starchild on BD in Japan so it's highly likely to be a heavily DNR'd Q-tec upscale. I don't believe anyone ever put up any screenshots of it.

G Gundam hasn't had HD masters produced for it so until whenever Sunrise does that, no BD.

Trigun is sorely in need of an HD remaster. The current masters for it are awful.

As someone I know pointed out to me, I confused the Gundams. It's Zeta that's coming in early 2016, not Wing. Though Wing WILL be coming to Blu-ray when Rightstuf/Sunrise get there on the distribution deal.

Well I did find it interesting that the brick DVD sets for Dragonball and GT were kept in 4:3 while only DBZ went the 16:9 route even though those came out after DBZ's brick sets. Then there was the Dragon Box and Level Sets which were in 4:3, then back to 16:9 with the main Blu-ray releases for DBZ. It was like ugh Funimation you were correcting your horrible mistake with the whole 3 Dragonball series, so why stop that now?

Sure the Level Sets were probably expensive to produce and Funimation did sell those at a pretty cheap price considering, but no excuse to go back to 16:9 when they were doing so good.

I remember there was a poll not too long ago showing that many of their consumers preferred to have DBZ in 16:9.

Or maybe as long as they keep pumping out flawed releases, they have an excuse to constantly re-release corrected versions down the line. If you're Funi, you can never have too many DBZ cash grabs you know.

It's just too bad most consumers will buy these flawed sets. If sales were poor, FUNi might have went back to 4:3?

I've stuck just to Kai, since it's 4:3. Still waiting on the Buu saga...

Actually, the poll's results indicated that most consumers wanted the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Funimation ignored the results of that poll, lied and claimed that the fans wanted 16:9, and released the BD sets as such. Apparently there were a lot of internal politics going on regarding that, Lance Heiskell (former Funi employee) mentioned it on his twitter a few months ago.

Yep...
https://twitter.com/lheiskell/status/623695483081351169 Also keep in mind the lack of 4:3 releases over the years (Particularly bigger sets, most 4:3 releases were singles (DBZ was initially 87 volumes with 276/291 episodes) prior to season sets ever coming out). The only complete one was the Dragon Boxes.

Reading those tweets, he seemed to admit that the 16:9 DVDs did indeed sell better than the 4:3s. Of course they were much more easily accessible than the Dragon Boxes were--that's a large part of it, as well as them coming before the 4:3s. But it still doesn't speak well for the DBZ consumer base that they still caved and bought those 16:9s despite internet grumbling. They could have simply not bought it out of protest, but they didn't or didn't care.

The point is that Funi likely had enough internal marketing info that indicated 16:9 sets would and DO sell better despite any protests to the contrary.

Wasn't sure where to ask, but what is the deal with Paranoia Agent? This was released by Kadokawa on blu-ray in Japan, and seems to be one of the few Geneon titles that Funimation didn't pick up, so what is the status of the license on this show? While we're at it, I'd also love Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers... Does Sony have those?

^ Wish I knew the answer to that. I would also love to see more domestic Satoshi Kon BD lovin', as well. I have Paprika, and imported Perfect Blue and Roujin Z from the UK.

Power struggle perhaps. And yeah, check this out - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=238

It seems as if Funi may be sitting on restored 4:3 eps all the way up to the androids saga, heck, they may have the whole show remastered in 4:3 for all we know and are just waiting for the right (most profitable) time to release it.
