Default Problem with Pioneer VSX-LX301 with Sony BDP-S590 No Sound.

Hi!

Back in November I bought the Pioneer VSX-LX301, also bought a set of Polk Speakers(I got them at half price at Best Buy ) basically I started to upgrade my entire HT, I started to connect all the equipment on X-Mas but I got a problem and let me see if I can explain myself:

- I connected all the speakers, to the AV Receiver, along with the bluray player, Xbox One S, a DVD Recorder, and a Wii U.

- I went to the intial setup to calibrate the speakers.

- I also upgraded the AV recerver, as soon as I connected the receiver to the internet it told me that there was a new update(the one that makes the receiver DTS:X compatible) I of course downloaded the upgrade.

Now here's where the plot thickens.

I remember I wanted to test if I could see any picture on the TV and hear sound from the speakers, I had a movie in my bluray player(Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) and I remember hearing a scene from the movie, but at that moment I think is when the receiver ask me for the update, so I downloaded the update and after that I got no sound from the speakers, with this I began a series of tests:

- I of course check that all the speakers were working properly, they were.
- I thought that the problem could be the port on the back of the receiver, so I change the bluray player to another port, I also got no sound.
- I connected my Xbox One S to the port were I had the bluray, the Xbox work perfectly, I got sound from all the speakers.
- Change the HDMI cables.
- I tried with another bluray, the BDP-s390, with the same results.

And there's another weird thing going on:

I have the bluray connected via HDMI, I don't know why the receiver is telling me that the input is analog, I already check the inputs options on the receivers and I made sure that the analog option was deactivate.

I'm from Mexico and I was getting so frustrated that even I called Pioneer customer service from here(I don't want to imagine how much money I spent in that call) the person who took my call was very nice and tried to solve my problem but unfortunately with no success, at the end he told that maybe the update was the problem, that it was not a good idea to update the receiver using the wifi, it was better to use the USB method, because if by any chance my connection fail, I would loose some of the info of the update and that would give problems, at least that's how I "picture it", at the end he suggested me 2 things, o try to install the update again, but now using a USB, after I hung up, I tried it, but I couldn't do it because the receiver already had the latest update, the other option was to call Sony, but I didn't want to make another long distance call to be honest

I search online for a problem similar to mine and the only result that I got was this:

http://forums.audioholics.com/forums...-sound.105559/

Is the same problem that I got, the receiver and player are not the same, but both devices are from the same series as mine... I think.

Anyway back when I bought my bluray player I also bought the extended warranty, so I went to best buy to explain the problem, they connected the player there and it worked so the told me that it was probably a compatibility problem and that was not covered by the warranty, so I bought a new sony bluray(the BDP-6500) and it worked, and I've been watching movies with that player.

It seemed that I got my problem solved, but to be honest I did not plan to buy another player right now(I actually want the Oppo, but I can't buy it right now) so I wanted to know if there's a way to make the BDP-s590 to work properly with this receiver, so I can return the Sony 6500 and save me a 100 dlls, I was very happy with the 590 I never had a problem until now and I really want to make it work, but if is truly a compatibility problem then I guess that I have no choice and keep the Sony 6500 or yes I know, use my xbox one as my bluray player, which I don't really want to do it, I'm using the xbox as my 4K player as for right now, but I would like get the new Oppo and make it my main bluray player in the future, I just prefer to use a bluray player to watch my movies not my xbox...

Anyway sorry for the long post and I hope I explained myself and I will appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you very much for your time

If you're saying that one player works with your setup and the other doesn't, I would look into the outputs of the non-working player and see if they are actually sending out the signals as they should be.

perhaps try plugging the player directly to the TV to see if that works.

Hi!

I finally figured this out, and it was quite simple, I actually bought another bluray which it work without a problem, but I still wanted to know what happened and one day I remembered that I never tried connecting the bluray to a port that was not a HDCP2.2(which I believe are the ports that are compatible with 4K), I did connect the bluray to another HDMI but it was another HDCP2.2 and of course it didn't work, so I connected the player to a "normal" HDMI and boom, it works, fortunately I figured this out before my return window expire, so I returned the other bluray player I bought

Quite simple the solution that I just missed
