Region free BD players - Blu-ray Forum

It had to happen sooner or later, and I'm surprised it took this long. Maybe this is old news to some (turned out the mod got announced Nov. 19), but apparently you can now buy region free Samsung BD-1400, Sony BDP-S300 and BDP-S500 from a Swedish vendor:

Mind you I'd be worried about maintaining the region free hack and any firmware updates to compensate for disc compatibility issues.

wow, thats great news

too bad it is way to expensive. you have to pay ~ 640€ for the BD-1400 and that is to much.
its almost cheaper to buy two seperate players.

i will wait for some pricedrops or buy myself a region a player

Jinx keep in mind those prices have Swedish VAT (25%) added to them. I think the price premium for the mod isn't that much more than the player normally is over there. Just look at the price for the (non-modded) Panasonic. It reflects the Swedish market more than the mod market. I'm sure we'll see more mods out as time passes - maybe even simple modded firmware upgrades you can download.
