I do like the look of this Lego Movie and that would be, along with the nice looking 3D, (medium to upper medium 3D possibly?) why I may check this out in theaters.
Not sure what the story is about yet, as the trailers mostly show a bunch of celebrities and don't reveal what the hero's problem will be in the movie. Thanks for posting the thread Chaotic. The motion reminds me of Wreck it Ralph, kind of intentionally choppy animation. |

Yes, Computer Animation makes stereo 3D very manageable compared to live action. You don't need to convert it, just add a parallel camera rig to your main camera and adjust as needed. Then post edit the parallel camera footage in a 3D Editor to correct convergence and reduce the effects of ghosting by pushing the image into the screen. Close up objects can still pop out.
Lego Movie 3D got good reviews based on the preview on TV last night. |

I saw it yesterday too and its great! This will become a cult classic no question. VERY funny all the way through. I thought the 3D was in the medium category, with some strong moments. Overall though, its a must see!! |

I don't know how its going to be a cult classic when its going to be one of the biggest movies of the year and the biggest animated fim to open in Dec-Feb.

This ruled the box office, brought in over 69 million. Should end up being a huge hit. Let's hope that doesn't encourage anyone to NOT release this in 3D when it hits Blu.

I don't consider a cult classic to be defined as "not making money". I consider a cult classic as a film that develops a rabid following and that has a fanbase that quotes dialogue lines and sees the film many many times over.

Good to hear and now have to find time for this and Robocop (2D only sadly). The preview does look like really nice medium 3D, but will have to see for myself in theaters hopefully. |

Hmm, usually cult classics are movies that arent liked when it first comes out, then later gains a following.

I see what he's saying regarding quoting lines from the film (cult classic lines).
Was Pulp Fiction a hit in theaters or did it gain a following afterwards? I could never get into that movie (only saw it on TV) but many others rave about it. I think maybe the first Matrix was more of a cult classic, as it really gained its audience during the DVD years compared to box office. A cult classic is usually a movie that most people missed seeing, yet there is a small but strong following of supporters that keep it alive, as others have suggested. Family Guy was at first a cult classic, as its following became vocal when Fox canceled the show way back when. ON TOPIC: What was the best 3D shot in the movie if you had to pick one? |

no ... it really doesn't - I saw this on a three story ETX screen and I swear the visual insanity made me a bit nauseous and migrane inducing.
don't get me wrong, it's a fun movie, but on a really large screen if the movie had slowed down a bit, it would have been fun to see all the animation work in greater detail, but the editing is just overbearing at times. |

Spoiler alert?
My theater had a 2-minute blackout (audio only, except for occasional flashes of still-photo). If that's actually part of the movie, it's downright stupid. It serves no major plot point, and looks to the audience (me) like a major glitch in the copy sent to this theater. 3 seconds of blackout "for effect" might make sense, but 2 minutes is stupid. Otherwise, the movie was not-bad. Last edited by lgmayka; 02-12-2014 at 03:29 PM. |
