Tales From the Crypt lives! TNT is reviving the anthology horror series with writer-director M. Night Shyamalan. The project will be part of a new two-hour horror block at TNT that includes short and long-form programming led by Tales content and “curated” by the Sixth Sense director, who recently scored a sleeper success with Fox’s mystery-thriller Wayward Pines. “To be part of such a beloved brand like Tales From the Crypt, something I grew up watching, and to also have the chance to push the boundaries of genre television as a whole, is an inspiring opportunity that I can’t wait to dive into,” Shyamalan says. Tales is a Twilight Zone-style horror series best known for its R-rated run for seven seasons on HBO in the 1990s, complete with puppet host the Crypt Keeper (photo above). But the show’s origin dates back to a 1950’s EC Comics series created by William Gaines. In addition to Shyamalan, executive producers include Ashwin Rajan, James D. Stern, John Santilli, and Dan McKinnon. Tales will debut this fall. The series is sometimes confused with a similarly named anthology title, Tales From the Darkside, which The CW attempted to reboot with a pilot order last year, but declined to greenlight to series. |

Also, if they completely redo the Crypt Keeper that's going to suck. I don't care if he didn't look anything like the EC comics version, he's become pretty iconic I would have to say. |

Could be good. I enjoyed both TZ reboots, although the latter only lasted one season. I thought it was quite good, even if the host wasn't a patch on Rod (who would!?)

From what I have been told, Shamyalan has redeemed himself with THe Visit. Plus, I'm quite sure he wouldn't be writing or directing every episode. He would probably do the series premier and then the season finales. |

All the other stations keep the higher rated shows and cans the lower ones. Constantine had bad ratings so it went. Same with Almost Human. Fox, NBC, etc don't get rid of good performing shows like TNT sometimes does. They get rid of low performing ones. |

I agree. Tales from the Crypt had tons of terribly silly twists too (the Bobcat Goldthwait episode immediately jumps to my mind) that he'll fit in perfect with.
I hope this sticks. Maybe it will lead to TNT bringing back MonsterVision. ![]() |

I spoke with Kassir at Spooky Empire back in October and he seemed to think that the TFTC rights had reverted back to the comic owners. He didn’t mention this particular deal that was just announced but that he felt that whatever was going to happen probably wouldn’t involve the HBO version of the show due to HBO/WB no longer having the rights. So basically unless something has changed since october, Which is entirely possible. The HBO version of the Keeper may not even be legally allowed to be apart of the show. In saying that, TNT and HBO both have the same parent company so it is possible.

Cutting a season in half does not help. The fact is NBC never wanted Constantine to succeed in the first place. They had no faith in it at all and I'm not even sure why they bothered to order it in the first place. Anyway, http://io9.gizmodo.com/rip-crypt-kee...ium=socialflow Well there goes my enthusiasm. An old man with a cane? Why not use the Vault Keeper or Old Witch instead then? Oh, and to make matters worse, it sounds like the show is going to be a season long story arc instead of individual stories. As such, it is Tales from the Crypt in name only. |
