![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That's Entertainment!: The Complete Collection Blu-ray 2020 pre-order That's Entertainment!: The Complete Collection Blu-ray 2012 release That's Entertainment!: The Complete Collection Blu-ray 2007 release I have been waiting for this ever since it was announced. Even after it's delay, I waited patiently - and it arrived TODAY! Will let anyone who is interested know how these clip from all these very old movies look in BLU. This, to me, will serve as a great indication of what can be done on blu with more historical films. ![]() Last edited by Deciazulado; 08-21-2020 at 12:46 AM. |

Completely agree! I was going to pass up on Battle of the Buldge and Elvis because I had visions of those old dated movies. But after seeing it on my brother's machine, there is something special about old movies in super high detail more-so than these new CGI movies. It would be nice to get Ben-Hur or The Ten Commandments on Blu. Or even Charlie Chaplin's if that is even possible.

Absolutely right! I just watched BD version of Battle of the Bulge-- the movie is no classic but the PQ was topnotch, showing well the possibilities for old films. Can't wait for the older films with really priceless cinematography, including, e.g. "Dive Bomber" (Errol Flynn, Ralph Bellamy), which has fantastic flying scenes of pre-war Navy aircraft at San Diego NAS.
Edit: Forgot to mention I bought the "That's Entertainment" box set for my wife (and me) for Christmas, so was delighted to see the rave review of it from the OP. Last edited by Rheologuy; 12-28-2007 at 01:43 AM. |

OK - I watched many clips from Vol 1 - and one word comes to mind - BRILLIANT! The clips from The Wizard Of Oz are beautiful! The old Esther Williams movies are incredible! Most of the earlier clips from the 20 and early 30's have a bit of grain to them - but once you get into the 40s and 50's - OH MY GOD! MGM really needs to release these great films individually - I, for one, will get them all!
As much as I also appreciate some of the newer releases - this collection is a goldmine - PACKED with extras, as well!! |

I think clips on III look even better
![]() Have in mind that not all the clips on these compilation movies may be transfered from the clip's original negatives or rare remaining surviving elements but may be from elements derived from them in creating the new films. As High Definition home video progreses through the years and scanning transfering techniques in 2k and 4k evolve as the mainstream manner to transfer movies, it'll be like DVD all over again and many classics will be resurrected and preserved. |

I had been thinking about this since this title was announced. If there merely improved only the original THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT films (which is probably what they did) - then we will only get as good as those may have been.
However, if they open the vaults and start working on and releasing these films on their own merit, I think we may even see a greater improvement. The sad part of this is that since these films are not action-packed, blood-splattered, violent types of films - I wonder just how many of the new generation would care to have these. For myself, I can appreciate any type of film, on it's own merits - however, I am not sure that can be said for the larger Blu-Ray buying public. If I am wrong - let me know - I would love to hear from you! |

Hey SNAP -
I, too, had these at onetime on the LD box release. I also had the more recent SD DVD release (which I sold onEBAY when BLU RAY was announced). I paid $55 for the complete series - not bad AT ALL for what they are! I need to find myself a good 370 minutes - and sit through the entire series. |

Your enthusiasm is very contagious, Sushisake.
![]() I'm not a huge fan of musicals, alas, but I am a fan of Warners' historical releases, and I do hope they do well enough with this release to move on to more catalog releases, and soon. |

Seratur - as I am sure you have already realized - not all musicals are created equal. When you see "SHOWBOAT", "HIT THE DECK" and IDIOT'S DELIGHT" in That's Entertainment - it is a FAR cry from the current SWEENEY TODD and not so current CHICAGO. Yet - they are all great on their own merits. And yes - I, too, LOVED SWEENEY TODD last weekend as much as I did when I saw it LIVE on stage in 1979!
It just kills me that DREAMWORKS has anything to do with it. |

Oh, you're completely right -- nothing can compare to the stuff Hollywood was able to do at the height of its powers. Even though it's not a bad thing that they're still trying.
I'm just more of a gothic/romantic/highbrow cinema kind of a guy, I guess, but it doesn't mean I won't end up owning these down the road, considering how massively I've been buying Blu recently. ![]() |

Seratur - whether you buy them down the line (or not) is up to you. I suppose my goal here (and I don't post all that often) - is just to show that another genre has been finally released in the form of a restrospective on the historical musicals of a time gone by. I am only hoping that this is a sign of more things to come - along with the "top heavy" titles that we have already which lean more toward the action-packed, edge-of-the-char type of genre.
Thanks for indulging me in my enthusiasm for this release. We all have our favorite types of films - some type, more than others. I think it's just great that we are getting more like this finally. By the way - a little off topic (but ON topic as far as music goes) -- The new QUEEN in Montreal bluray is MAGNIFICENT! |
