Exclamation Amazon US Shipping From Within Aus Now?

Just noticed my latest Amazon US order looks as tho it was shipped from within Australia. Australia Post was the carrier and all tracking details are AU locales.

Anybody else notice this with their latest orders?

Yeah, I've noticed that too on my latest purchase.

I'm a bit sceptical, so far -- according to the tracking at Amazon, after being despatched nearly two weeks ago it's been to several different "facilities" but hasn't left the US yet. And the tracking number doesn't find a record in AusPost's own system.

Both US and UK Amazons seem to be having trouble lately in negotiating reliable shipping.

It's possible they shipped using UPS iParcel, or some similar service. They take it from the destination country to customs clearance, and then pass it on to the domestic mail service for delivery, which is why it ends up with a local tracking number. That's how the various European Amazons ship to Canada, anyway.

Amazon has a physical presence now in Australia though, doesn't it? Or is that still coming? (I am a Kiwi).

Yeah but here's the thing. Any other parcel I get from amazon via UPS shows about 20 or 30 destinations before it even reaches AU:

According to the Australian Post it departed Los Angeles on 24 Oct. So it more than likely was shipped via another method within the US and then handed off to the Australian Post after it left the US.

In the past Amazon have always handed parcels over to a shipping company for it to first get to Australia and then get delivered. Some of these companies use Australia Post for the latter.

But with Amazon opening in Australia soon they may start sending big shipments of lots of packages (and perhaps goods from their warehouse) to Australia, to then be handed over to Australia Post.

BUT I'm not sure how they would deal with customs as each package may need to be cleared individually. And if the goods are sent to the customer by Amazon from within Australia then I would think they would have to pay GST.

Yes Australia post has had a presence in USA for a year or two now amazon use them on orders sent here sometimes or have in past I think auspost advertise they can get you what you want called shipmate/shopmate I think so this is where Amazon probably comes into it and Australia post.

Interesting. It may explain why Amazon US purchases have been arriving uncharacteristically quick of late. I just got one a moment ago and I only order it last week. Ditto the last few purchases... It's a shame the same can't be said of Amazon UK, who seem to have taken a big slide downhill recently. Nowadays, I constantly worry whether anything I buy from them is even gonna turn up.

You need to check for each release.

I think it's a bit over half of the US blu-rays which are region free, and so there is plenty that will play in any player. But unless you have a machine that can play Region A locked discs there are also lots of discs that won't play.

Note that all UHD discs are region free.

Last time I bought from Amazon US it would take about 2 to 4 weeks to get them, they are slow as hell. I am excited that Amazon is coming to Australia however, I HOPE we will still be able to get different releases from the store not just the Region B stuff, that you can only buy in Australia

I suspect that Amazon Australia will only see Australian discs, expect in the case of 3rd party sellers who will sell whatever they want.

Given that Amazon only sell products from each respective country on their international sites I doubt Australia will not be any different.

However, having said that that doesn't mean that they could have a supply of international discs that if Ausrtalians purchase from their US site will be sent from within Australia.
