I'm buying NHL 08 for PS3 VERY soon and just wanted to know why does the PS3 version run on 30fps, while the XBOX360 version runs at 60fps?

Lazy port on EAs part. I'll admit you definitely notice the difference in playing the two, but the gameplay far outweighs any issues I have with it. Great game.

Its EA, EA have been screwing up the PS3 games. I will not be purchasing any games for the PS3 that are published by EA!!

EA sucks...support 2K Sportsline...

I have NHL2K7 and it's great!

I also have NCAA and NBA games from 2K...love them all...great visuals and great play mechanics...

EA Live and Madden just plain sucks on PS3...it's as if EA and M$ are in bed together!!!

All I know is, if EA does not shape up and start producing games that can handle PS3, they will lose me on all fronts of EA games.

I have played the following recent hockey games:

NHL2k7 (PS3)
NHL 07 (360)
NHL 08 (360 & PS3)
NHL2k8 (PS3)

2k8 was in my opinion the worst of all 4 and didn't play it very much, they tried to innovate the shooting method without trying to look like an exact copy of what EA did, and in my opinion failed miserably. 2k7's goalie bullet-time mode I found was really fun to play with a friend. NHL 07 was a good start of a turn around for the EA series. NHL 08 while not looking significantly different than 07 was a huge leap forward. My opinion is that with the last 2 years EA has made themselves the huge player and has in the process made 2ksports obsolete.

Everyone with a PS3 should buy Burnout Paradise to PROVE to EA that PS3 owners are willing to buy high quality, polished games from them.

yeh...but before you even compare the two version...I have to say outright that NHL 08 is NOT worth buying...reasons for buying it...online play and dynasty...

well, EA servers have been so shit...that I haven't been able to download that mandatory roster update (before you can play online) for 3 weeks...it'll simply disconnect me from the EA servers or say that they're too busy and I should comeback later...fine, so I go into my dynasty, set to the hardest difficulty...and the game is SO unrealistic I've had to install a punching bag by the ps3...the opposing team is leagues ahead of your own team...there's no way you can consistently poke check or even hip check them of the puck and yet their team can basically skate by the puck and you lose possession

http://youtube.com/watch?v=aSdCYKxeDW4

...all of their goals...and I mean ALL the goals are scored of the post...or they go through a player or a goalie...I've lost count how many goals the opposing team scored through my goalie's equipment...whether pads/glove or just simply the puck matrix like avoided the goalie...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=IyP81KafKFM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkNQS...eature=related

also I've completely given up on the halo stick that is NHL 08...the stick will go through the players on a regular basis...
...when the computer decides that they need a goal, THERE'S no way in hell in stopping them...their lines never get tired...you can't hit Jagr off the puck because apparently he's a GOD...I mean the most difficult level is suppose to be hard...but c'mon, have some realism about it...(I've had games where the other team had 95 shots, in 10 min periods and the score was 4-3)

also when it comes to online play...you can't have more than one controller playing at a time...so if you all wanna play on the same team and play online you each need a ps3 and the game...wow

I like the game, because when it works its huge fun...but most of time you sit there ripping out your hair, or wanting to smash something...there's just WAY too many flaws in it to enjoy it...

So I downloaded the demo versions of NHL 08 and NHL2k8 from the Playstation online store to my PS3, both were decent but EA's has the upper hand. I'm using the classic controller setup (Wrist shot on square, slap shot on circle and pass on x. The other controller setup I dont understand what the heck that sh!t is about, lol.

Maybe it's because I just had an operation on my left thumb and cant move my left hand on the controller much or maybe it's because I've been playing EA NHL since 1990 or maybe earlier so I've gotten used to the Classic setup.

My question is, where the heck is the sprint/skate faster button on the classic setup? I cant become Mr.Fantastic from FF, because that's who I'd need to be to play with the default controller setup.

So where's the speed up key?

If you're referring to NHL 08, I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a speed up button.

Phew, thx, although I think I did see a Sprint/Speed up button on the default setup, with a L and an upwards arrow over it.

EA sucks. I have such a love/hate relationship with them now b/c of these lazy, sloppy ports that we have been getting for the PS3. I love the gameplay much more than I do on the 2K Sports titles though.

NHL08 is a fun game. I play it all the time with my friends. Go Red Wings!

Yeah EA can definately boggle the friggin mind at times, that's for sure, but in the end, they make decent games.

Stomping on people's legs, Chris Simon style?

Someone please tell me there's a sprint/skate faster button on the new EA NHL 08?

Imagine a Pavel Bure with no friggin sprint? Sucks.

well, there is no sprint button, however you can edit the players equipment and give them wider skates, which in return gives them greater speed...

theres no real sprint button, but faster players will blow by slower ones anyways. they've improved the physics a lot over previous generations

oh and yeah, at first I couldnt get used to the new setup, but you eventually do and its a lot better. stickhandling is so much easier

I just had 3 straight games of EA NHL 08 demo, finally scored once, great overall game, and yes I can see the physics have improved a LOT since the last NHL I played in 04.

I won my last game 2-0, on pro, one was a slap shot, the other an open net, BUT, I did a hard one timer and Anaheim's goalie's caught it but his glove clearly passed the blue line with the puck in it, that should have counted. But it's cool, I cant complain for stuff like that, the game is amazing.

Than I tried NHL2K8, not sure about them, I felt like I was playing NHL 2005 at the most, and what was up with that huge black puck, people still cant see it too well or what?

Clearly EA's NHL08 is the superior product here, will definately be picking it up.
