Default Recommendations for Blu-ray and receiver

I am in the market for a blu-ray and a home theatre receiver (preferably with speakers included). I have a hp vp6121 projector tv. It does 1080 according to the manual. It has vga in and out, and component video. What is htmi? is that the vga connectors? I have hooked my laptop to the tv before.
Since I will be buying 2 components can somebody recommend 2 that go well together. I am behind on the technology and really want good bang for the buck, doesnt have to be audiophile quality. Also if someone knows where to buy these items (on sale?) I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I did figure out that I dont have hdmi on my projector tv. Are these still good choices? I had thought about getting the ps3.

I think the PS3 is a worthy a/v piece. You get a great blu-ray player and can play games as a bonus.

I have the Onkyo 605 and am most pleased. Take a look at the Boston Acoustics MCS130 speakers. I have no qualms about the quality I have for the dollars spent. I am not certain that it can be beaten.

The PS3 has the ability to output Video through Component and Audio via HDMI at the same time...don't know if any other players can do that? (or surf the internet)

Good point about the outputs. I think I will take a trip to best buy and circuit city. Maybe just get a ps3 and see how it looks on the tv, unless I can talk the wife into a receiver also.
