Default How often do you buy the Blu-Ray if you own it on DVD already?

Do you normally purchase everything that you own on DVD on Blu-Ray too or do you just re-purchase your favorite movies? Or is there a certain thing you go by to want to re-buy a movie?

When the blu-ray is a significant update over the dvd version and it has all the extras ported over. If I rebuy a movie I want to get rid of the old one, so it has to have everything (and more) that one has.

it's almost always PQ and blu rays trump dvd's almost every time. So yes, I rebuy any movie that I like from my old dvd.

I do not have the same plan with blu ray to 4k. I will upgrade many, but not all. A good deal of my collection will peak with blu ray.

I only upgrade if it's a movie I really want to own in better quality. It doesn't have to be one of my favorites.

I certainly don't intend to upgrade every single DVD I own.

I follow a basic 10% to 20% rule... (of my dvds that were repurchased in Blu-ray, just as 10% to 20% of my Blu-rays that are being repurchased in 4k).

It generally either depends on extras included in the upgrade including superior audio-visual presentation, and how much I love the particular film.

Case in point: My top five films of all time "The Godfather", "The Godfather: Part II", "Blade Runner", "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Pulp Fiction" are films that I own several versions of on VHS, dvd and Blu-ray and someday 4k.

If its a movie I usually try to buy it on blu ray or if its a good deal (IE cheap Price) upgrade.

If its a tv show that has the same extras as the blu ray IE Ash vs Evil Dead I will buy it on DVD and wait for a complete series blu in the future. If its a tv show only on dvd than I buy it.

Since upgrading to Blu-ray years ago, I have never bought a DVD if the same title is on Blu-ray. As far as upgrading the DVDs I bought before upgrading to Blu-ray, I told myself I wasn't going to do that for every title I own. Turned out, I was lying to myself.

It really depends on
a) how much I like the film, and
b) how bad the DVD PQ is.

If it's an okay film and it still looks okay on my bigger TV, I probably wouldn't bother unless I could get it dirt cheap.

I upgraded all my remaining DVDs to blu-ray over 5 years ago lol.

Is this a 5 year old question? Do you mean blu-ray to 4K?

I don’t think there is a single DVD movie worth owning if there is a better version available.

I upgraded my DVDs to Blu except in cases where the Blu was just a lazy bare bones transfer like The Usual Suspects, Man on Fire and Master & Commander.

I'm the same, I don't really have the funds to upgrade that many. Have decided I will upgrade my favourite films that I still only have a DVD of when they get released on UHD though. Don't think I'll do much upgrading of Blu to UHD.

All of my DVDs have been upgraded to Blu-ray if the option is available. I don't mess with DVDs unless I have to.

I don't do the upgrate anymore, because most times it isn't worth it. I upgraded perhaps about 100-150 DVDs and like 80% it wasn't much segnificant better. so I still have about 1000 Movies on DVD.

I've upgraded if it's a film I really like or if the price is too good to pass up. I've actually done little in upgrading from DVD to BD.

I've done more with UHDs, but the releases have been of those films I really love or have never bought in the first place when they came out on DVD.

If it's on Blu-Ray, I buy it. The only DVDs left in my collection are titles that haven't been released on Blu yet.

Sometimes DVD is fine for me, I have a theater room with a projector and a small tv in my bedroom that I don't mind watching DVDs on

All my DVDs have been replaced by blu-rays, except the ones yet to be released on blu-ray. There's a better section in the forum to discuss this though.

What do you do with the DVDs? There’s a bunch of DVDs I regret buying but I feel I’d get like 50 cents for each of them & it wouldn’t even be worth selling them at this point.

50 cents adds up quickly if you've got a large enough stack of DVDs. I'd rather take them to the mall and get $10-20 bucks instead of leave them sitting around my closets. Every few months I go through my blind buys and collection to take to Newbury Comics and sell.
