Late last year I was excited to see that UHD blu-ray was coming and ended up picking up a 4K tv for around $200. I made the mistake of not really investigating the tv (Seiki Se42UGT) and figuring I would get something better down the line. Needless to say I never could quite get the picture to look as good as I wanted as the contrast was awful on the tv; I ended up taking it to my sons room and saved up and got the new Vizio P series 50 inch and have been much happier with this tv. Anyone else have a similar story with a set you just weren't quite pleased with?

no offense, but I would never even consider buying a 4k TV at the price you paid....

i bought a sony 48 smart tv. i didnt want a smart tv but ended up with one, i wish i had bought a 55 generic brand tv without smart features, before people say you dont have to use the smart features, 10 times a day i hit an internet related feature on the remote by accident, i hate all forms of streaming

I do stream, but not from the TV. I stream from my OPPO BD player and before that, I streamed from a Sony BD player. The UI is far better on the OPPO than on the Sony TV. There are certainly plenty of movies that I don't care to own because I'm only going to watch them once. Or TV shows that I've missed. I find streaming perfect for that as it's a lot less expensive than buying the disc. And then there's also audio streaming, like Pandora. |

I bought my first TV when I was about 12. It had a screen that was about 6-7". Boy it was small. Looked something like... |

That is awesome! I love seeing older sets like that, there's an impractical side of me that would love to own a few older models for historical purposes (I would especially love to own one of the Baird mechanical sets). Do you still have it?

Yeah, I really regret buying my 55" LG 6 or 7 years ago instead of the plasma I was planning. While my wife has no complaints, there is a little bit of clouding in the upper left hand corner that bugs me when I'm gaming at night. Looking forward to seeing what my KS8000 does for me in the eventual man cave in a week or so.

I try to hold steady at once a decade but my plasma is inching towards 7 years old and replacing it was going to be inevitable since I was using it as my primary television.

Light is the primary dictator of our sleep/wake cycles (Circadian Rhythms). As it happens, all televisions, whether they be LED back lit LCD, CCFL back lit LCD, CRT, plasma or OLED technology, all emit a short wavelength blue light that closely approximates daylight. This type of light effectively prevents the pineal gland from producing melatonin, a peptide hormone necessary for normal sleep. This is especially problematic for children, as much of their physical and intellectual development depends on normal, consolidated sleep. An appropriate environment for sleeping should be dark, cool and quiet. I offer the above not as a dilettante, but as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist who has worked in sleep medicine for the majority of my adult life. In any case, I felt it incumbent upon me to offer (admittedly unsolicited) advice despite feeling confident no one is likely to immediately begin removing the electronics from their bedrooms on my say-so. |
