Default Lake Placid vs. Anaconda

Quote:
Two nature-run-amok franchises that got their start in the '90s and expanded on the direct-to-DVD market are going to clash.

ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned that shooting will begin soon on Lake Placid vs. Anaconda - a title that doesn't make much sense, but whatever, right?

Does that mean a giant Anaconda is invading the Lake Placid area or are we now identifying the giant crocodiles of the Lake Placid films as "Lake Placid." Makes my head hurt, but moving on...

Cameras roll in early December in Bulgaria.

The Lake Placid series kicked off in '99 with a film directed by Steve Miner and written by David E. Kelley. Three sequels followed. Anaconda, meanwhile, kicked off a few years earlier in '97 with a film starring Jennifer Lopez and Jon Voight. Again, three sequels swam in its wake.

Although both films began at different studios (the former at Fox, the latter at Sony), somehow both properties became Sony direct-to-DVD titles and instant SyFy original premieres.

Two irrelevant film franchises try to become relevant again.

I would give it to Lake Placid for 2 reasons:
Betty White and Cloris Leachman.

The first anaconda was cheesy classic and giant snakes always are scary. That scene when you see the snake swimming and the outline of the dude he just swallowed is pressed up against his stomach is so unsettling. Plus anything with a younger J Lo is fun entertainment.

Anaconda series is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I don't have the slightest urge to check this one out.

Random thread bump but I love both of these movies very much. It's hard to pick which I prefer. Anaconda has Jon Voight's fantastic performance as the world's first priest turned snake hunter, along with some really impressive VFX for 1997 and stunning locations and Lake Placid has its tongue firmly in its cheek with lots of great humour and knowing performances.

I saw this it was crap. The First Anaconda was so funny. I actually like the second Anaconda film the best. However for me the first Lake Placid film is flawless there is nothing wrong with that film the same can not be said for any of the sequels.

I love the original Anaconda. It's a great comfort film. I too also enjoy Lake Placid. Another comfort film. My fav part is Oliver Platt's dancing in the tent.

I've seen one of the Anaconda sequels but forget which one. I only recall the male lead had either a weak, whispery voice, or was recorded way too low. I did see Lake Placid 2 and do remember this - it was really baaaaaaaad. lol

They should make another theatrical Anaconda movie . I liked the first two. Reboot it with The Rock and it would be a hit .

Just realized this thread is not asking which one is better. They’re literally making a new film called Lake Placid vs Anaconda. For real.
