I'm surprised I haven't heard of any plans to widen its release more given that the first week showed decently at the box office. I guess the expectation is that it's downhill from here but it's succeeded in the US almost solely on word of mouth thus far and I'd have thought they'd test to see how far it can go.

This is probablh already Funimation's widest release that wasn't a special engagement like the DBZ movies. I don't think they could afford to go much wider. Or they probably didn't see the point to go wider when Anime is still very niche.

The film is fantastic though. One of the very best of 2016. Shame there won't be a Blu release in the US until maybe a year from now

My favorite movie so far this year...beautifully touching, mind-bending and gorgeously animated.

Hands down my favorite animated movie of last year. Happy to see the guys here in the US finally see Makoto Shinkai's finest work to date.

Wish this film had a release last year. It would have had a definite spot on my top 10. Such a wonderfully told story that combines comedy, drama, fantasy, and romance perfectly.

I was blown away by this. In a good way, it sort of felt like an emotionally-charged Doctor Who episode what with
[Show spoiler]the crazy dual timelines going back and forth during the last third. Other films like The Lake House and The Time Traveler's Wife have dealt with similar storytelling methods, but Your Name is easily more satisfying to me.
The first 2/3 were a lot of fun, and that last third had me on the edge of my seat up until the final scene. The animation was gorgeous to behold, as well. I really hope more people see this. It's already become my favorite (non-Miyazaki) anime film.

It was very limited though. Played in one theater in Los Angeles for one week at the beginning of December.

Only playing on one screen here... dubbed. Should I even bother, or just wait for the Blu?

I've heard the dub is good. Besides, unless you're willing to import the Japanese BD in October or are reggion-free and can import the subesequent UK release, you'd probably have to wait until next year for the US release

That is how they usually role in Japan. They take their sweet time releasing their products to us because we sell them for a ton cheaper then in Japan. Anime in Japan is insanely expensive and they don't want the Japanese importing for the cheaper price.

The dub is good. It all depends on what you think of dubs in general though. If you don't have an aversion towards dubs, you will find this one quite solid.

Default Heads up for UK viewers

The film is coming back to IMAX for on the 23rd and 30th. For those who haven't taken the plunge, I'd say this is a perfect way to watch the immense spectacle that Maktoto Shinkai has crafted.

One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. I wish I saw it in theaters when I had the chance. Probably my #1 of the year.

I'm torn on this one. I've heard all these great glowing reviews of it, but I pretty much hate anime.

Well you're probably gonna hate this too, I like the film, but most the problems I have are stuff that annoy me with anime generally (the J-pop score and some of the dialogue does grate).
