Paramount Ghost (1990) (Remastered) - July 21, 2020

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088T2ZZ5T...es-tv&sr=1-402

Quote:
Celebrating 30 years, GHOST is still one of the most memorable romantic films ever made. Winner of two Academy Awards®, Patrick Swayze is Sam, recently departed from the living world, but left behind in spirit form. While desperate to reconnect with the love of his life, Molly (Demi Moore), he discovers his death wasn’t just a random robbery gone bad. To solve his own murder, he enlists the talents of a skeptical psychic (Whoopi Goldberg), who doesn’t even believe her own abilities. Featuring a memorable Maurice Jarre score and a heartbreaking, yet often funny script by Bruce Joel Rubin, GHOST is a truly unique genre-defying film that will cross over into your heart and never leave. This limited edition Blu-ray has been remastered from a 4K film transfer, supervised by director Jerry Zucker.

Haha. I think most of these new releases have been pretty good so far, as the only misfire has been to Catch a Thief. Now, hopefully we get some never before on Blu-ray titles.

They should've used the inner panel art on the main cover. I plan on picking this up but can't help but wonder about a future UHD edition. It feels like Paramount isn't on board with the format for the most part. Reminds me of the old DVD to Blu-ray transition days when there were some holdouts.

So far, the vast majority of these “Paramount Presents” releases are the studio’s most reliable, big sellers... you’d think these would be the perfect candidates for UHD. If these can’t even get a UHD, then yeah, I would say they’re not really on board with the format in general. Days of Thunder clearly only got a UHD because of Top Gun: Maverick, so that one was basically just Paramount sticking to their long-standing policy when it comes to UHDs — only choose films that can somehow tie-in to a big new theatrical release.

Missing two featurettes from the original disc I see. I wish they would stop dropping features for no apparent reason at all.

I’m actually okay with the dropped featurettes this time

Quote:
Cinema's Great Romances (480p, Dolby Digital 2.0, 19:45 min): This segment focuses on the American Film Institute's top romance picks in the history of cinema. Film historians discuss such films as Roman Holiday, Love Story, A Place in the Sun, Barefoot in the Park, Grease and many more (including Ghost), with clips of the respective films shown in the background. If you're having a tough time thinking up a list of romantic films you'd like to see, give this supplement a shot.
Inside the Paranormal (480p, Dolby Digital 2.0, 8:35 min): Your enjoyment of this feature will depend on whether or not you believe in psychic abilities. Several psychics and proclaimed spiritual mediums are interviewed about elements from the film in the context of a third dimension between life and death.
Tangents from the feature so won’t be a huge loss.

Had no idea Jerry Zucker was the director!

I watched the remastered Fatal Attraction BD - odd looking in ways to be sure.

Is this some sort of strange case, like a digibook or tin? I usually move my BluRays into discsox to save space.

I wonder if Paramount are using these to gauge interest for a 4K release of whatever film, that if the umpeenth repackage of whatever classic film still sells on BD then there might be a decent 4K market there. (Days of Blunder being the obvious exception as that's got a remastered BD as part of this line and it's gone straight to 4K as part of this 'Paramount Presents: Tom Crooze' wave of UHD discs )

You’d think the fifth re-release of Fatal Attraction would have given them that data already, but alas.

It’s just so frustrating when we know To Catch a Thief has an HDR grade ready to go, but instead they just released the abomination that was the “Paramount Presents” standard BD edition. I wonder if the outcome would have been different had they decided to go for a UHD disc? Would a different, more competent person or team have handled the process?

(Also, I noticed a typo in my original post — I meant to say, “they’re NOT really on board with the format in general.”)

Days of Thunder and Top Gun got 4K UHD releases because of Tom Cruise.

This is what I want to know. It'll take Paramount as much the effort to remaster these movies, than to just release them in 4K UHD. It doesn't make any sense. To hell with all of this remastering crap, just release the darn movies in 4K UHD and be done with it. They already got the 1080p blu-rays and they're releasing them again in 1080p, whether if they're allegedly been "remastered" or not.

terribly unfortunate and beyond maddening when they do release the 4k on streaming, the very delivery method that scrubs away a lot of the benefit of the 4k

all the effort and money is already spent, why not try to get every last dime back by also doing UHD release? they cost more and I suspect have highe rprofit per sale so why not go for that as well?

in some ways it can backfire though and even more if the title has already been out on blu-ray, been popular, sold so well that most already have it and will only buy again if UHD arrives

also, if a UHD does eventually arrive, they hurt that market because then some who did go for the new package will be like and now just a year later supposed to get it again? they tried to trick me into double dip

Explain grease, it got a 4K release what new movie did it tie in with?
