Synopsis

Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, PAN'S LABYRINTH is a thrilling, violent fairy tale set in post-Civil War Spain. Ivana Baquero stars as Ofelia, a young girl who moves with her mother, Carmen (Ariadna Gil), into the home of Captain Vidal (Sergi López), in an abandoned mill in the middle of dark, dangerous woods. Vidal is leading his team of soldiers against resistance fighters--and he will do whatever is necessary to kill every last one of them. As Vidal bosses around the pregnant Carmen, a flying creature leads Ofelia through a garden labyrinth and into an underground cave ruled by Pan (HELLBOY's Doug Jones), who believes that Ofelia might be the lost princess of this strange yet magical place. To prove she is royalty, Ofelia must complete three tasks, each more difficult and terrifying than the previous one. Meanwhile, Vidal is becoming more and more paranoid, torturing and murdering seemingly at will. Del Toro (THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, HELLBOY, CRONOS) creates a marvelous battle between good and evil, between heroes and villains, in both the real world aboveground and the mystical land below. Baquero gives a compelling performance as the terrorized Ofelia, who is befriended by Mercedes (Maribel Verdú), a woman who harbors some secrets of her own. Stellar production design, superb special effects, and a stirring score by Javier Navarrete add to the scary fun. Selected as the closing-night entry in the 2006 New York Film Festival, PAN'S LABYRINTH is a captivating story that is not for the squeamish.

Absolutely LOVE this film. One of my top ten all-time favorites.

Would've been perfect if Future Shop used the entire art and made a red variant:

Outside of Drive, I skipped the other mondo releases but I think I'm going to have to get this one. Need to double check the collection and see if I have the standard release already

At this point, I've just been ordering all the Mondo Steelbooks so far, so no reason to stop now!

Finally they do a steelbook for a movie I don't already own (but absolutely do love)

Mondo has a great relationship with del Toro, I would be shocked if we don't eventually see almost everything other than the Criterion discs.

Not sure if that means the FS art is not the final one yet or if the rest may be on the back

This was meant to be the April release, but zerox39 said over on HDN that there was an unexpected delay so they had to push it back.

It's a great looking steelbook, though. I'm disappointed that 3/5 of the Mondo steels have been movies I already own (though only Pan's was one I had a steel of), but all these new ones look much much nicer on my shelf and I'll definitely be picking this one up as well.

And it's the cheapest one yet, I think!

It would have looked worlds better with the bottom part used instead of the top. The actual cover should have been relegated to the back. Missed opportunity here

Just wondering, numbered version only available on variant version right? Not regular version?

Nice, I just watched this last weekend with the The Devil's Backbone as double feature.

I will need to reach out to one of my Canadian friends for an assist on this.

Pre-ordered

I would have preferred a Horkey SB, but the artwork isn't very SB friendly I don't think.
