Default El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)

Quote:
A “Breaking Bad” movie from original series creator Vince Gilligan is set to begin production in New Mexico later this month.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the film will begin shooting under the title “Greenbrier” in mid-November and will run through February.

The New Mexico film office has confirmed that a film from Sony Pictures with such a title will begin shooting next month. The project is said to track the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.

Further details about the film are being kept under wraps, and it is unclear which or if any of the show’s original characters are expected to return. It is also unclear whether the project is planned for a theatrical release or will air on television.

Representatives for Gilligan did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment. Sony Pictures Television, which produced “Breaking Bad” for AMC, declined to comment.

Seems like a TV movie since the Walking Dead movies are due to air on AMC.

Wait...what?

A “Breaking Bad” movie that might have nothing to do with any of the characters from the show?

...did I read that right?

Thought that at first, but Sony Pictures is the one producing the film, so maybe not. I think the TWD movies are being produced by AMC Studios.

You should probably wait for some more information to come out before rushing to any conclusions.

They’re probably gonna Prison Break it and say Walter didn’t actually die. He got saved by the paramedics who were coincidentally right there alongside the SWAT team and revive him, then a rival cartel ambushed them and kidnaps Walt and forces him to make his famous Meth, putting him in the same place Jesse was, and it’s up to Walt to get himself free.

You’d be surprised how something like that could happen in Hollywood.

Normally I would be skeptical but if there's one person I trust not to screw up a show/franchise, it's Vince Gilligan.

As long as it's Breaking Bad related, I'm in. My first thought was also Jesse.

Why mess up a good thing? The show is probably a masterpiece, alongside The Sopranos.

[Show spoiler]Oh, that's right, money.

This is premature news and speculation as nothing has been officially announced.

Will it be some sort of flashback that takes place during an unexplored portion of the time period over which the show occurred? Otherwise, I don't see how it can be related to the show, since the show ended pretty conclusively...unless they focus on Jesse.

" According to the New Mexico Film Office, the movie “Greenbrier” will begin production in the Duke City mid-November through early February.

The film office wouldn’t confirm or deny that the project was a “Breaking Bad” film.

But a source close to the project confirmed the production. "

Tea lady? Until it's official.............meh.

I just finished watching the Breaking Bad series about 1 1/2 months ago, and felt it was superb. Great series (I may review this in another thread).

However, I have 0 interest in a BB film
[Show spoiler]if it's a sequel to the series; as far as I'm concerned, Walter White/Heisenberg died in the finale (i.e., you saw his body), and that's it. I don't care to find out what happened with Jesse other than knowing that he escaped at the very end; his character was important to the storyline while the series was ongoing, but White was the main character in the series & everything revolved around him. So, IMHO the series ended when his character died - and that's it.

And, the successful series Better Call Saul (which I still want to see, but haven't yet) is also worth noting as a "spin-off" to BB. However, in this case the concept does interest me because this is a prequel to BB; and, I did find the character of Saul amusing & unfortunately not as over-the-top as you would think - LOL.

Side-note: As a big Prison Break fan
[Show spoiler]I didn't mind the "sequel" to the series that came out a couple of years ago. However, in that case it wasn't obvious that Mike Scofield actually died (i.e., you never saw his body), so it was borderline-plausible that he would have survived & gone into "hiding", as was explained in the sequel.
