Default Blu-ray.com Community Top 25 Historically Based Films [READ OP]

I know, I know. Another voting thread.

But hey, I like lists, you like lists, Schindler likes lists, so let's make more lists!

"But Darth Marcus, what counts as a historically based film?"
Good question peasant, what counts as a historically based film for the purposes of this thread is this:
  1. The film must contain some factual accuracy based in history, whether it be the story or the atmosphere in which the story is centered. It does not have to be ancient or older history, it can be very recent history.
  2. The story itself does NOT have to be factually accurate. It can be "based" on true events with embellishments, or mostly made up, but as long it is loosely based on something or someone in history I'll allow it. Let's face it, if this list was designed around films that were 100% factually accurate, we wouldn't have a list. Examples: Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot, The Lives of Others, Titanic, Apocalypto, Gladiator.
  3. Heavily fantasized films do count as long as they fall in line with Rules #1 and #2. Example: 300.
  4. Historical religious films do count, again as they normally have a basis in history, even if some of you consider many of the elements contained within as more fantasy than fact. Examples: The Passion of the Christ, Ben-Hur.
  5. "Alternate" history is allowed, as long it is based on things of historical significance. Example: Inglourious Basterds.
  6. Documentaries DO NOT count, nor do TV mini-series or TV shows. (Sorry, Band of Brothers fans).

Also, while I realize several films will be debatable in terms of their "historically-based" significance, here's a general rule to follow:

If a film on either IMDb, Blu-ray.com, or Letterboxd has a Genre tag of History, I'll allow it. Exceptions can be and will be made, but I feel like this is a good general rule to follow.

And lo, I have descended from Mount Sinai to present to you commandments that I, Darth Marcus hath made, which I may or may not have stolen from similar threads, and will now pass off as my own divine commandments:

THREAD COMMANDMENTS

1) To participate, peasants may list anywhere from 20-25 films. 20-25 shall be the numbers that thou shall count, and the number of the counting shall be 20-25. 26 shall thou not count, neither count thou 19, excepting that thou then proceed to 20. 27 is right out.

2) The Point System: List your top 20 - 25 films in order descending from your favorite, the higher up the film is the more points it will be rewarded:

1. 25 Points
2. 19 Points
3. 18 Points
4. 17 Points
5. 16 Points
................
16. 5 Points
17. 4 Points
18. 3 Points
19. 2 Points
20. 1 Point
................
21. 1 Point
22. 1 Point
23. 1 Point
24. 1 Point
25. 1 Point

Entries 21-25 shall be for those who would like to add some runner ups, and they will all be assigned 1 point each. If you can't think of the extra 5 films worth mentioning, then you are not required to. But the minimum amount of submissions is 20 films, the extra 5 are for people who might want them. If you can't think of 20 and create of list of 19 films or less, your list will NOT be counted.

Also, list your films in order of preference. Unnumbered lists will be assigned points as/is in descending order.

3) There can be only one list! You can update your list as much as you need to up to the deadline, but if you post multiple lists I will contact you to remove them.

4) Do not combine multi-part or multi-volume films into one line. Example: Che: Part One and Che: Part Two cannot be combined simply as Che.

5) Please indicate the year of production in parenthesis. This is to avoid confusion of films with similar titles from different periods. For example: if you list the most recent Ben-Hur film, please list is as Ben-Hur (2016) so I know it's not Ben-Hur (1959), and vice versa.

6) Trolls shall not pass! Every peasant is entitled to their own list, please respect their lists and opinions.

7) OPTIONAL: Leave a personal review of your choices. Reviews are welcome and could potentially be incorporated in the final list. You know you want your name there with your quote, you know you do.

8) The Deadline is set for: May 6th at 12:00 PM EST Why so far in the future? Well, I'm getting married on April 30th, and after I return from my honeymoon and my future wife returns to her job, I'll need something to do as I'll be off work that following Monday. And besides, my life will be filled with wedding preparation stuff until the 30th, so, deal with it.
