I have a very simple, elementary question:
Have Blu-Ray movies improved in quality since the inception of this format? This is why I am asking: When I demo'd my TV (1080p, 42" LCD) I had them hook up a Blu-Ray player so I could see how it looked. They had a copy of POTC (The new one) and it took about 3-4 minutes to load. My assumption is the delay was due to the immense amount of data included in this newer disk. Tonight I craked the seal on my new Sony BPD-S300 and only had one movie to watch: "House of Flying Daggers", in Blu-Ray, which I am assuming is an older Blu-Ray movie. It loaded in less than 30 seconds. That seemed awful quick compared to the in-store demo I had last week. In addition, I am slightly underwhelmed in the display although I haven't had a real opportunity to tweak the picture yet. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks in advance. ![]() |

Firmware updates have came out and made load times alot better. As for picture setup... run a calibration setup like the ones on the disney discs.

This is a very simple yes or no question.
Have Blu-Ray movies improved in overall appearance since their inception due to better available technology? Asked differently: Will a newer Blu-Ray movie (say POTC or Spidey 3) look better (for lack of a more technical term) than an older Blu-Ray movie? Thanks for the input to this point but I realize that different players have different load times and that calibration is possible. I have only had the player for about 3 hours. Rome wasn't built in a day. ![]() |

It really isn't a simple yes or no answer....some newer releases look terrific, some not so great... If you want a simple answer...yes it is possible that newer movies can look better than first release BD cuts, but that is absolutely not a guarantee. |

![]() Yes, newer discs are looking better. Movies that are recent theatrical runs generally look better than catalog titles. Also, some studios discs are done with higher quality than others. I really thought all three Pirate movies were great. Spidey 3 was excellent in both picture and audio. I would say check out reviews on this site and others for specific titles. hope this helps |

Or how about this answer....
very few people think many movies look better than the Pirates movies...so any of the three pirates will probably look better than house of flying daggers. I know they are at the top of my list for picture/audio quality. |

I have House of Flying Daggers to, and sad to say, it's one of the worse PQ for a Blu. It was one of the early releases and it is understandable that it's not as good as the Blu's released now. Try Ratatouille, Die Hard4, or Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Thank you...I was a little worried about the picture quality after watching this (HOFD)movie. My assumption was correct; the transfer was of poor quality.
Off to the video store tomorrow!!! Happy New Year!!!! You guys rock. |

Short Answer is Yes. They have improved quite a bit since the first wave of Blu-Ray Movies. I have both the Blu-Ray and the Standard DVD of Spiderman 3 and it is a Night and Day Difference between the two. Also, for the complete experience make sure you have a good Surround Sound system to boot. Have a great 2008!
BTW, go check out Best Buy, they have some good titles on sale for $19.99 through Saturday. |
