Default Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)

Sure, he's proven to be a pretty decent comedic actor, but, he Is still seen as one of those Young Hollywood "Pretty Boys", so tho it's commendable to take such a role outside of his comfort zone, I'm not sure if I can really see HIM as such a horrendously vile person? (guess that's why they call it Acting )

Cannes: Zac Efron to Play Ted Bundy in 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile'

Quote:
Joe Berlinger will direct the film, which will be told from the perspective of Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.

Ahead of the release of his latest film Baywatch, Zac Efron has signed on to a new film project, and he'll be playing one of the world's most notorious serial killers.

Efron will star as Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which will be helmed by Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger (Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory).

Michael Werwie wrote the script for the project, which is told through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy's longtime girlfriend who went years denying the accusations against Bundy, but ultimately turned him in to the police. Only nearing his execution, when Bundy began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Kloepfer, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grizzly murders.

The script earned Werwie coveted Nicholl Fellowship first prize and landed on the Black List.

Voltage is introducing the hot project -- which paints Bundy as a portrait of evil yet simultaneously chillingly normal -- to buyers in Cannes.

Nicolas Chartier and Ara Keshishian are producing via Voltage along with Michael Costigan (Ghost in the Shell, Out of the Furnace). Efron’s Ninjas Runnin’ Wild banner will produce alongside Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett.

Principal photography is set to begin October 9. Voltage will fully finance and handling international sales. CAA and UTA represent the domestic rights.

Efron has spent the majority of the last few years starring in comedies and the role in Extremely Wicked will take him into dramatically dark waters.

He has the chops to do it. But he also has his comfort zone of insanely stupid movies. It's not like McConaughey where he showed his acting ability, then did a bunch of stupid comedies, then went back to serious stuff. Efron started at the stupid comedies.

Efron is fine in serious roles like At Any Price, he's just not memorable.

He's pretty memorable in roles like The Paperboy and Parkland.

It will likely be his one chance to prove himself in a dramatic role. If he succeeds, he could have an illustrious career full of great opportunities. If he fails, he'll be working with Seth Rogen type filmmakers for the rest of his days as a clown without circus makeup.

I'll give anyone a chance to prove themselves in a new/challenging genre. However, they had better put in the work to make their performance worthy of the opportunity. Otherwise, they tend to drop off of my radar completely.

I thought he already did this in the adaptation of Nicholas Sparks's The Lucky One, but for sure it'll be interesting to watch him do a real challenging role such as this. I like him since I saw in on HSM on my childhood, and he deserves much more than those stupid comedies he's been doing lately.

That's a fascinating choice of role for him. Hopefully it works out well and we get a good film out of it

I actually think he's a pretty good actor if given the material to work with. He just hasn't made the smartest of decisions when picking up scripts...

I don't mind Efron, seems like a cool guy and he's good with comedy. I did see Paperboy but I can barely remember anything about it. Hopefully stepping outside of his wheelhouse works out.

Too small. Bundy needs to be a Mark Harmon type (Harmon played Bundy in the 1986 miniseries The Deliberate Stranger).

I'll give this a chance for Berlinger directing, though.

The Paperboy was quite forgettable. Other than David Oyelowo, it's really just a lot of overacted hot air.

Well, as a Kidman super-fan admittedly, I've found everything she's in -- whether good (Eyes Wide Shut) or not (Far and Away) -- to be utterly memorable. But like I said, I'm a huge fan. I find that even her movies that don't really work, like Grace of Monaco, it's never on her. She's extremely dedicated to her craft, and very talented. It's just movies such as Grace she has below-average material.

Anyways, back to the movie at hand. I'm really excited about this. As I said, I'm a Zac fan, and I've liked pretty much all his previous work that I've seen, whether drama or comedy. And I very much think that this is an excellent casting situation. Plus, although this is probably something I shouldn't admit, I do generally like stories about serial killers -- even more so when they are true stories. Not sure what that says about me.

She did. According to everyone involved. She spoke at length about how strange it was.

I know -- that's seriously messed up!

Zac agreeing to it sort of raises some questions, doesn't it? HAHA!

He actually looks a bit like Bundy in the eyes, but tough to top Harmon in The Deliberate Stranger as mentioned earlier. Depending on how in depth they choose to go this could be a tough sit. Bundy did things during and after these murders that was beyond heinous.

I'm interested that it will be told from his girlfriend's point of view. I'm not exactly sure what that will mean, specifically. But it sounds pretty interesting. I mean, imagine finding out that this man you've had a relationship with has killed at least 30 women (most likely far more), that he used to return to his drop sites and have sex with the corpses, that he decapitated many of his victims, etc.

I'm happy to see him in a project like this, I was already happy that he is on this "The Greatest Showman"
