Can This Be Done at Best Buy? - Blu-ray Forum

If I received a title for Christmas that I already owned, could I exchange it for another one - even without a receipt?

Since I got Die Hard 4 on DVD, I was meaning to take it in and exchange it for the Blu-Ray (I'm aware I would have to pay more).

Or is it one of those YMMV things where each BB is different?

They will let you do it as a 1 time courtesy over the course of a year. At least thats what my local BB keeps telling me

Yeah, I did that with Apocalypto. My girlfriend bought it for me on DVD. I went to Best Buy, told them it was a gift and had no receipt and that my GF bought it from another Best Buy. They allowed me to do the exchange, get the Blu-ray version and pay a little more.

Until the end on January we'll take back any unopened product under $50 without a receipt. Provided that it's a product we carry >_>
Also, we can look up receipts if that's a worry. Assuming you paid with plastic anyways.

I tried to return a PS3 game unopened las summer....wanted to exchange it for naother that I didn't have....got it as a gift without a receipt and they told me to take a hike.

I ended up at EBGames and exchanged it without hassle.

BB's policy's change like the wind as well as who you talk to.

Simpsons SD -> Simpsons Blu-Ray no problem. No receipt; even the price tag was off, so I didn't even have anything that said "Best Buy" on it

Normally we don't allow no-receipt exchanges, but during the holidays (such as now) we do. We're actually a LOT more lenient this year than ever before.
And I'm on here a lot during my shifts. I'm an operator 3-4 days a week so it gets dead slow between calls x_x

I went to BB and returned a duplicate BD that I got for xmas w/o gift receipt and the CSR rep told me they would only give me credit for the lowest price on the title for the past 30 days. Therefore, I only got $14.99 in credit for my movie

Damnit, I got Glory Road and wasn't exactly thrilled with that movie, I should've just brought it to Best Buy before I opened it and exchanged it for a better movie....what was I thinking?

You can exchange it - but Best Buy puts you on a list they keep that has a limit on the $ amount you can do over the long run. I never knew this until I took a CD back to exchange w/out a receipt and they told me sorry, I had exceeded the yearly limit...

(took it to Borders and got a higher price exchange in the end)

I've EXCHANGED at best buy without a reciept a million times. Now getting cash back without a reciept, there in lies a challange.
