So am I to get this straight...A teenage girl who's never had sex suddenly gets pregnant and we find out that it was the doctor that accidentally inseminated her? Hmm. I hope there's a subplot where the mother sues the doctor.

Artificial insemination procedure and I don't think she is 17 in this version of the novela...
Wiki Set in Miami, the series will detail the surprising and unforeseen events that take place in the life of Jane Villanueva, a hard-working, religious young Latina woman whose family tradition and a vow to save her virginity until her marriage to a detective is shattered when a doctor accidentally artificially inseminates her by mistake during a checkup. And to make matters worse, the biological donor is a married man, a former playboy and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but was also her former teenage crush. |

I'm not sure how you can accidentally artificially inseminate someone during a routine GYN appointment.

I watched this a couple of nights ago and was really surprised. Thought it was hilarious. The lead actor, Gina Rodriguez, is really charming and funny.
This was like a parody of a Mexican soap opera. Over the top in parts and even a thick accented narrator. It was similar in tone to the ABC series Ugly Betty. It's only 1 episode, but a really good start. |

Should be pretty easy since after watching the show it feels like a modern comedy injected style telenovela like Betty La fea (ugly betty original version). Spanish telenovelas usually run about 90+ episodes that last 1 hour for 5 days a week until complete, no seasons. Seeing as this is for the US markets they could easily do 4-8 US length seasons easily depending on season quantity. The original Juana la virgen lasted 153 episodes according to wiki so I think this can go a long time if the us market is ready for a spanglish telenovela turned into us tv show. Telenovelas are so much different than the US soaps so I think this is why many people are liking it because is a different style than they are used to.

Last night's episode was hilarious. Loved what happened at the end.
Also, a really hot scene with 2 of the female characters. ![]() I think Gina Rodriguez is the find of the year. Really cute with a lot of personality. She kind of reminds me of a hotter version of America Ferrera from Ugly Betty. Glad it got picked up for a full season. I read the show Facebook page and it's like 99% positive feedback. |

So the lead actress won a Golden Globe giving The CW their first major award. Makes me think I should maybe check this out... but the premise still does not interest me at all. I looked at a couple episode summaries and was just not intrigued at all.

This show is basically an english language parody of Mexican telenovellas. Similar in some respects to Ugly Betty. It's basically a comedy-soap opera. |

I just started watching this on Hulu (I've watched the first three episodes). I'm just gonna watch it week by week (as Hulu cycles through the early episodes) until it makes it to Netflix.
Anyway, it's actually pretty funny. And ridiculous. But it knows how ridiculous it is, which makes it even better. But despite all of that, the characters are pretty well-developed, I'd say. |

At times it got a bit too ridiculous for me personally, but I've seen the whole Season, and you might well think otherwise. I think that different viewers can have a different threshold or tolerance maybe, for that aspect of it.
