Well, its about time, even if it's a region locked, bare bones release sourced from an old as hell master.

It will be a newer master than the DVD, surely, as none of them are anamorphic widescreen anywhere in the world. I expect that a 16:9 version was prepared for HDTV broadcast (I seem to recall watching it), but when, I don't know.

Hopefully, Universal or Criterion will release this one in the States soon enough.

Yeah, I'm up for whatever they're willing to churn out on a pressed disc.
I'm not seeing a whole lot by way of product info. If it's a Universal release, maybe we'll see a same day & date release as this one.

I suspect it'll be a Via Vision release. They release a lot of Universal product and usually are region free.

This one actually may be from Universal themselves as Via Vision is distributed by Madman and their March catalogue has no mention of Day Of The Jackal. Also according to EzyDVD other Universal titles are being re-released that same day on DVD (Touch of Evil, Housesitter, Fletch films, The Jerk) So being Universal they should definitely be region free - Im not aware of any locked discs from Universal.

If it is a Universal release, then the likelihood that it'll also be released in the US (or at least the UK) is high. If I remember correctly, weren't the individual release dates of the titles originally included in the Steven Spielberg Director's Collection released a few months earlier in Australia?

Later. Or at least for the one title. The Spielberg Directors Collection came out in U.S October 14th 2014, with an individual release of Duel appearing in Australia November 6th. Aside from Jaws, E.T and the Jurassic park films which all had much earlier releases none of the other titles in the collection (Sugarland Express, Always and 1941) got released individually in Australia

Okay so its coming from Shock Entertainment - I know many of their Cinema Cult series are region free but unsure of the rest of their titles for those overseas members that were wondering.

Okay, well I'm going to go ahead and assume they'll be releasing it as part of their Hollywood Gold Series, most of which (if not all of which) are Region A friendly.

Region A "friendliness" would be nice, but I'll take anything I can get at this point, as I've practically given up hope that Arrow, Eureka, BFI, Criterion, Twilight Time, Universal, etc., are ever gonna release this film. When new release announcements pop up in the news section on this site, this is the one film that I'm looking for in every single announcement.

Is this release exclusive to Ezydvd? I'm curious as to why this listing hasn't shown up on JB Hifi's website yet.

It's not exclusive to Ezydvd. It's been listed on Sanity's site for a few weeks:

http://www.sanity.com.au/products/23...The_Jackal_The

I pre-ordered it a couple of weeks ago in store at JB. Their online department are just taking their time putting it up. They are regularly the last to put up upcoming releases.

I don't know. I didn't ask, and the balance isn't on the pre-order receipt (I never put down a deposit for orders), it just says 0.00.

I followed this up this morning, the price currently listed in their internal database is $15.98.
