I think this was discussed on slickdeals and the conclusion was 3rd party sellers like gruv, not bestbuy directly.

Perhaps mods could move the thread that’s already been started for this over here? Or maybe just resurrect the Best Buy thread from Retail/Shopping hell and merge them?

Good to know you can use rewards. I still have a BB credit card I use as a primary card so I rack up a good amount of points - and most of the time can’t decide what to use them on!
Going to check out the selection now! |

Eh, the way I look at it is that would just be more obsolete DVDs I'd had to upgrade over the past 15+ years. I shopped their big DVD sections too but I never went whole hog into DVD, gave me much less to rebuy once HD came along. I see a lot of heavy collectors from that era still rocking tons of DVDs that have since been upgraded cause they just couldn't be bothered to upgrade everything, I'm glad to have minimized the DVDs I've carried through to now.

When used DVDs and some Blurays are sold for a dollar, people buy them by the handful.
Not crappy Dollar Tree leftovers, good titles and they don't care that it's DVD. One store sells them for 25 Cents during their twice annual storewide sale, dollar CDs also go for 25 cents and not crappy titles. AC/DC, Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers, Beatles Past Master just to name a few. People love DVDs at the right price. Popcorn movies like Fast and Furious blurays are regularly going for a dollar. Comedies too. Here's what holds its value: horror, Criterion and boutique labels People are trading in boatloads of DVDs, Blurays and CDs. Boomers are downsizing. I just bought the entire Seinfeld DVD collection for $9 and the first TV Flash DVD for $1 in Like New condition. You'd have to be awful lucky to find these for 25 cents during the sale. I bought Seinfeld because it was just sitting there and in excellent condition. I one time time bought all of the Friends DVDs for a dollar/season complete and sold them on Ebay for $50. Those days are gone now. But people still like DVDs at the right price. Last edited by 50strat54; 08-22-2025 at 03:31 PM. |

The funny thing is that a lot of Best Buy stores were still selling off what they had left from '23 and prior for months after the "official end" of physical media at Best Buy. And I recall that you could still buy it online until about May-June.
So, really, Best Buy was only out of the physical media game for less than a year and a half. |
