I don't think pancakes can be defended here. Are they good? Sure. Are they great? It depends on who's making them.

Waffles are great no matter who makes them.

If someone says they got a bad waffle they're just a hater. Sup-par waffles are a myth.

They don't exist.

Lots of pancakes are mediocre.

Here in Germany Pancakes are thin and more egg-like but still a bit thicker than crepes



There's a variation of pancakes that originated in Austria called Kaiserschmarrn



It's pancakes cut or rather torn to pieces and slightly refried. I prefer this version over the classic German pancake. However, I prefer the fluffy American pancake over Kaiserschmarrn.

Waffles in Germany are ok but they aren't as popular as they are in America. Pancakes and waffles in Germany are usually served with honey and/or fruit or some fruit jam. Different countries, different cultures. That said, I'll take fluffy American pancakes over waffles anytime but, I do love waffles as well. And while we are at it, I was never a fan of crepes. Here in Germany people go nuts over crepes with nutella but it is just not my thing.

Sehr interessant! I am loving the whole Kaiserschmarrn vibe! I wonder if any American restaurants serve this... looks awesome.

We do fruit on waffles here too. Usually strawberries.

My favorite pancakes in America are Cracker Barrel pancakes.

If you ever get a chance, go to a Waffle House here in the U.S. But go later at night. After 10pm they turn into a different animal. During the day they are just average.

For some reason they are more fancy-fied than they deserve to be.
