Anyone pick up the bluray release of this yet? Was just wondering about video/audio quality...love WWII flicks.

It's pretty decent, a good widescreen transfer that suffers a little in the extreme long shots where the grain field increases - largely because it was shot in the Techniscope format, known as the poor man's CinemaScope, which used only half the frame area on its negative to avoid distortion and save on film stock costs at the expense of some quality - but for the most part is pleasingly detailed with good depth to the image. Extras are limited to a brief stills gallery (18 images) and a fullframe and less than stellar quality copy of the original trailer.

Thank you for the detailed info. 1 other question, can you tell me if it is a single layer BD25 disc or a dual layer BD50 disc?....

Sorry for the late reply: no English subtitles (except for the German dialogue) but it's region free. Can't tell if it's a BD25 or a BD50, I'm afraid.

Very simple friend, just flip it over, check the back of the disc and see if there's one barcode wrapped around the center, if so, it's a BD-25 disc. If there's two individual barcodes wrapped around the center, it's a BD-50.

PS - I own the French BD, but don't know how it compares to the more recent release. I assume they're the same.

Ah - thank you!

Just the one, so it's a BD-25.

Just received my copy yesterday (after 2 missing shipments from Amazon UK). Pleased to report the transfer looks very good to my eyes, audio is good as well. And the disc is Region-Free although it says "B" on the case. I had actually asked Odeon on Facebook a couple of months ago if it was Region B locked and their rep said it was which turns out to be inaccurate.

Overall, very pleased to have this in my collection.

Looking to buy this great movie but the UK version is a bit pricey to import to the U.S.

Does anyone own the German bluray of this?

It's a bit cheaper & has extras not on the UK blu.
Does it have English subtitles for the non-English dialogue?

Watched the German bluray tonight. Unfortunately no English subtitles for the non-English dialogue.
