Thumbs up My Neighbors the Yamadas finally coming to BD in North America (early 2018, GKids)

Announced on twitter this morning by GKids official twitter account. This is finally possible thanks to them acquiring the rights from Disney to release the Ghibli catalogue on BD. They'll start with 6 movies in 2017 and more in the horizon. Finally, we'll be able to complete our Ghibli sets of domestically-released BDs!

Great news. Does that complete the Ghibli collection then?

Disney is dumb, they should have bought Ghibli when they had the chance.

Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars. It's pretty scary how big they are. Also, I like Ghibli just they way they are. Even if they're in life support right now.

I'm glad they don't own Ghibli. Their distribution license states they're not allowed to edit the films, but if they owned it outright they could. The horrors that would bring.

They never really needed Ghibli. They originally picked up those licenses more to expand their base. And also they had some very influential champions of Ghibli at the company at the time.

Anyway, who actually wants Ghibli to become a corporatized American product? We're already saturated as it is.

They picked them up because Buena Vista Japan really wanted the Japanese rights.
