The LEGO Movie Directors Talk LEGO Batman Spin-off Film

Quote:
The LEGO Movie Directors Talk LEGO Batman Spin-off Film

BY SPENCER PERRY ON NOVEMBER 19, 2014

The LEGO Movie is currently the highest-grossing animated film of the year, beating out the likes of Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Rio 2, and even How To Train Your Dragon 2, while also remaining ahead of Disney’s just-released Big Hero 6 for the time being. Following its success, Warner Bros. began making plans to turn the film into its own franchise with multiple films set to roll out, starting in 2016 with LEGO Ninjago.

In 2017, which was originally set for The LEGO Movie sequel, WB will instead be bringing us The LEGO Batman Movie, a spin-off of Will Arnett’s version of the Dark Knight. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will produce the film and speaking with Empire, the pair said they’ll touch on the entire cinematic history of the character in the film.

“Rest assured, every era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged,” Lord said.

“There have been so many interpretations of Batman and there is so much to play with there,” Miller added. “There are 40 versions of his origin story alone.”

The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay will direct the film which features a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith. The LEGO Batman Movie debuts on May 26, 2017.

He has to say "I'm Lego Batman" at least once or I will be pissed.

Eh, will remain cautiously optimistic. Considering how it's only been months since the original was released, can't get too mad that the project was so radically overhauled. But I got burned when I trusted Lord's & Miller's names with Cloudy 2 after the original, so despite the undying love I have for The Lego Movie, not gonna get that excited for this.

Zach Galifianakis to Voice The Joker in The LEGO Batman Movie

Quote:
Zach Galifianakis to Voice The Joker in The LEGO Batman Movie

BY SPENCER PERRY ON AUGUST 12, 2015

Zach Galifianakis to take on the voice of The Joker

Though Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad wants to hurt you really, really bad, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that another version of the character is in town. The outlet reports that comedian Zach Galifianakis is in final negotiations to voice The Joker in the upcoming LEGO Batman movie. Galifianakis joins a cast that includes Will Arnett as the titular Dark Knight and Michael Cera as the boy wonder, Robin.

Most noted for his work as a stand-up comedian and his role in “The Hangover” trilogy, Galifianakis has lent his voice to a number of animated series including “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “American Dad,” “Puss in Boots,” and “Tom Goes to the Mayor.” He also co-starred alongside former Batman Michael Keaton in last year’s film Birdman and just wrapped production with Wonder Woman herself on the action-comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses.

The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay will direct The LEGO Batman Movie, which features a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed The LEGO Movie and are also developing an animated version of Spider-Man for Sony, will produce the film along with Dan Lin.

The LEGO Batman Movie will swing into theaters on May 26, 2017.

It was aimed strictly at children but LEGO Batman: The Movie DC Superheroes United was pretty fun. I actually liked it better than the big-screen LEGO Movie, which served too many masters and was less funny than I was hoping.

It's just the cutscenes from LEGO Batman 2 though. It's not a completely new movie made from scratch like The LEGO Movie.

I am definitely looking forward to this movie but yikes..............May 26th 2017 is a very long wait for a release like this don't you think?

Not particularly, no. Animated films usually take between 3-5 years to make.

The LEGO Batman Movie Adds Mariah Carey as Commissioner Gordon

BY SPENCER PERRY ON NOVEMBER 9, 2015

Mariah Carey will voice Commissioner Gordon for The LEGO Batman Movie

Your eyes do not deceive you Bat-fans! Deadline reports that Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey will provide the voice for Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie. She joins a cast that includes Will Arnett as the titular Dark Knight, Michael Cera as Robin the boy wonder, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, and Zach Galifianakis as The Joker.

Most well known for her storied music career, for which she has received countless awards recognition including 20 American Music Awards, 32 Billboard Music Awards, and five Grammy Awards, Carey has also appeared on screen, mostly notably in 2009’s Precious. Carey has previously lent her voice to episodes of “The Proud Family” and “American Dad!” but this would mark her first voice acting role in a feature film.

The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay will direct The LEGO Batman Movie, which features a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith (who will direct The Flash for Warner Bros. Pictures). Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed The LEGO Movie and are also developing an animated version of Spider-Man for Sony, will produce the film along with Dan Lin.

The LEGO Batman Movie will open in theaters on May 26, 2017.

It's been updated since, she's playing the mayor of Gotham, not Gordon.

Does this take place in the same universe as The Lego Movie? Or is it its own thing?

I see. Thanks for clarifying. That's what I originally thought, but I wasn't sure.

So is there a chance that non-Batman characters, like Wyldstyle, will appear in the film?
