Default A Possible Way To Get Blu-rays Released ???

I was just thinking.

I wonder if sales went way up, for instance, on a Warner Archive DVD-R title, would this make an impact on whether Warner would move a bit more quickly to release that same title into their Blu-ray Archive Collection ?

Just wondered what you guys thought.

Warner is notoriously slow at releasing catalog titles, although they are fantastic at re-promoting titles already on Blu-ray.

Its just a combination of cost analysis, past sales, past box office take, promotional opportunities, and degree of effort. Sometimes that combination works in our favor while other times, it does not.

Then you have the unavoidable outcomes:

BD-R releases 99% of the people here refuse to buy.

Licensed releases 75% of the people here try to find a fault with.

Initial prices of releases 90% of the people here refuse to pay.

Yeah man, I totally agree with everything you're saying.

The one good thing about the Warner Archive Blu-ray Collection is the discs are actually pressed, and not BD-Rs.

I just thought that maybe if people started showing an interest in a particular title that Warner has available in their Archive DVD-R Collection (meaning if sales were to suddenly skyrocket for that title), maybe they would take notice that demand for that title was really high, and subsequently get their arses in gear to get it out on Blu-ray.

Warner does have a way to shop in their WB store where you can browse by "bestseller", so it would just seem logical to me that if a certain Archive DVD-R title they had was like in the top 10 or whatever, you would think that they would take notice and give that title priority over the others that were furthur down on the list, thus releasing the "bestselling" titles on Blu-ray more quickly than other DVD-Rs that weren't doing as well.

Maybe I'll order like 250 DVD-R copies of "Straight Time" (one of my top ten favorite films of all time), then see if they do anything regarding releasing it on Blu-ray (then, regardless of what happens, return all 250 copies just in time to get a refund)

No, I doubt I'll do that...but it sure would be interesting to see what might happen if sales suddenly spiked on one of their DVD-R catalog titles !!

Know how many bdr they would have to sell to consider an official release? I don't but I'm sure it has to be a shit load.

Then you have the fact people like me never buy bdr because well, it's a bdr, so that's potential sales gone.

Then if they sell a ton of a movie on bdr then why would they do a real press when they are making money on the cheaper version?

Default Buying Warner Archive DVD-Rs To Get A Blu-Ray Release

No Gargus, I wasn't talking about BD-Rs...I was talking about whether or not it would make any difference if we bought more of our favorite Warner Archive DVD-Rs in an effort to get them released on Blu-ray.

I just thought that if Warner saw that there was increased demand for a title that they only offered on DVD-R, then possibly they might be more apt to consider releasing it on Blu-ray.

I know, right? It's kinda like people aren't happy no matter what happens. If I was Warner I'd be only releasing this shit digitally and telling people to **** off. That way I still get paid and put zero effort into releasing.

I doubt it would work that way. Considering the random nature of what they've released on blu-ray so far, I find it hard to imagine that sales figures of DVDs even factor into the equation. It would also take a real coordinated effort on the part of a lot of people to buy up all those DVD-Rs just to even get it on to the best seller list. Nice thinking though.

Yeah, you're probably right. I do notice that Warner, in particular, are EXTREMELY random in the way they release their Blu-rays.

Also, I've been going over their "Best Seller" list, and it is completely bogus. I followed one particular title during a 3 day period, where it went from being #24 on the 1st day to #99 on the 2nd day, and finally on the 3rd day it came in at #18...totally nonsense !!

I just hope Criterion releases some of these Warner titles !!

I DID IT !! I bought up a shitload of "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" DVD-Rs, and now, the film is outpacing sales of every other Warner Archive title (including the Blu-rays !!!)

The title is currently #1 as far as the best seller list on WAC's site.

If sales of DVD-Rs do INDEED factor into their equation for releasing a title on BD, then hopefully this will make a difference

UPDATE: "Porky Pig" is now the biggest selling title on Warner's site
