Australia FOX Cancels Future DVD/BD Releases Of The Simpsons

News has come through via Simpsons producer Al Jean that FOX will no longer be releasing any further seasons of the show on DVD or BD and will only do digital releases. What terrible news, especially for people who are trying to complete a collection, whenever the show ends. Hopefully other companies will licence the seasons for collectors to buy.

It's only really a matter of time before we don't see physical releases of big films in the future. I for one will definitely not be buying digital only releases. I like to physically own my films. On the upside, I will save lots of money.

Pirating the broadcasts it is then! I'd rather be a thief than pay to own streaming rights. Yes, I am EVIL. Thank you, come again.

I couldn't care less about The Simpsons, but I agree - they start pulling this crap with other things and I'll be a-torrenting and making my own. You want me to pay money to "own" something, it better damn well be a physical copy or I'll do no such thing.

Just remember thanks to the governments metadata new laws your ip address will be stored, just ask iinet customers who will be getting letters in the next 6 months or so from the copyright holders of the movie Dallas Buyers Club asking for compensation!!

But in honesty don't use a torrent unless you have protection, there are ways to hide your true ip address

The Simpsons DVD releases became bad after they switched from nice DVD jewel style fold out cases to crummy disc scratching cardboard sleeve style cases for season 11 releases.

Only series 13-17 & 20 have been released on Blu-ray.

With this kind of attitude to blu-ray releases. No wonder people are resorting to illegal means to get here fill. I for one am also not a fan of streaming media.

Although thanks to the Federal Court, the compensation requested is likely to be $20-30, rather than the thousands sought in the US.

Realistically speaking, maybe Shout Factory or some other third party can now conceivably license out the other seasons?

Where can I as a third class Australian, stream season 18 and 19, or buy digitally? I'm not being sarcastic or a smartxxx here, I seriously want to know.

To think the creature in charge of these greedy customer hating aholes came from our fair shores.

lest we forget all of those other TV shows that get one (or two) season released on Blu - and then..... nothing further.

The only issue I see with The Simpsons is the sheer number of seasons - added, the number that a retail store could maintain. There needs to be a rethink on 'how' to access these shows (apart from streaming).

In any case - the way in which this country is heading under the MurdochFoxLibs - we'll be stuck with just PoorBand and DVDs for our entertainment. What a sad nation we have become - where our privacy is more of an issue than actually doing anything.

They are encouraging us to get it through illegal means I guess.

Thank you for your interest in FX Networks.
The content you are trying to access is not available in your region.

It might be 'time' to investigate an 'unblock' service !!

or use Hola Unblock on Chrome - see it that works.

Wow, as a collector of physical media, this is really disheartening news.

Out of curiosity, where'd you get the $20-$30 price tag from? Outside of speculation from legal eagles and IP/copyright experts, I've not heard anything that suggests the judge/court will cap the compensation to such a price.

BTW, anyone wanting a proper digital copy (probably best we can hope for), Itunes AU has dropped seasons up to 25 for $24.99 a season.

Still leaves us without seasons 18 and 19 though.

Why did they stop at 17? They had released 20 a few years back so surely they could let us complete the first 20...Just greedy!!

The Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season Blu-ray/DVD was a rushed job to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the show. Since it just contains all the episodes with no extras or episode commentary. I just wish it got the same treatment as all the other seasons on DVD and blu-ray. Although its better than nothing since they have no intention of releasing any more.

They could have at least done S18 & S19 to complete the collection up to S20. They owe the loyal viewers/home video collectors that much.

Even a bare bones release would be better than nothing. How about a BD-R via Amazon? They can mail it out and I will make my onw BD cover.

I f*cking hate digital and I hate streaming sh*t. To watch the Family Guy/Simpsons crossover in HD I have to use 4GB every time (only show I have ever bought via digital, as I missed it on 7Mate and the catchup).

What the hell is happening to home video! This seems to be the beginning of the end. Boycotting DVD releases and will boycott digital as well.
