Something that has been bothering me for a couple of years now, is the ever growing presence of humor/comic relief in Hollywood movies.
It's obvious Deadpool and Guardians Of The Galaxy for example are meant to laugh and I have no problem with these kind of movies, the humor is an integral part of films like these. But with The Force Awakens, White House Down, Gods Of Egypt, Wonder Woman, Battleship, Terminator: Genisys and the last couple of Mission: Impossible movies to name just a few, it seems nearly every movie just has to have some sort of humor crammed into it while IMO it's unnecessary, doesn't fit and only distracts from the story. I'm shaking my head while I watched the second trailer for the upcoming disaster movie Geostorm and I had a big "WTF" moment when I saw the new Death Wish trailer. This is why I love recent films like Olympus Has Fallen (besides a couple of not so bad oneliners, the movie was serious and hard as hell which unfortunately cannot be said about its sequel), Evil Dead (2013), Logan (only had a couple of very, very brief comical moments which I thought were well executed) and Total Recall (2012). They had none of that light hearted "humor" all throughout the movie, which was very refreshing for me. Any thoughts? |
