USA Old School Sesame Street

I watched Sesame Street with my nephew today and the show is not like it used to be, a good chunk taken up with Elmo, and other not so great bits. I used to watch SS in the 70's when I was a youngster and was really entertained and learned a lot too. The show is way to commercial these days. All the good bits are gone, the number shorts were my favorite. My favorites were "The Mad Painter" who painted numbers on different objects(slices of bread, umbrella, stool, etc.), he was played by future Jefferson's star, the late Paul Benedict, the woman who was in some of the skits was a young Stockerd Channing. "Jazzy Spies" was trippy animation with Grace Slick on vocals! Then there was the accident prone "Baker"(voiced by the late Jim Henson put was played by a stuntman) who always fell down the stairs with cakes, pies, root beer floats(ouch, broken glass!). Then there was the pinball animations. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!

I remember when they had Stevie Wonder do a great version of Superstition (clocking at over six minutes!) on one of the old shows, classic! He had a great drummer on that version, but it was him on the studio version!

Everything changed when Henson died...I'm sure a lot changed as Disney bought the company too.

I used to watch it all the time. It was, and probably still is, one of the best (if not the best) children's programing shows of all time.

"Jazzy Spies #3" had a a three-headed monster & a devil w/ a pitchfork in it,along with Grace Slick's vocals! Of course SS does'nt air it anymore.

Why is it so tough to find the street anyway?

My son is 15 months and he doesn't pay any attention to the new SS. Maybe I'll look into getting the old school one, but it looks like Vol 1 only has 5 episodes on it.

A) Disney didn't "buy the company"--It's still owned by Sesame Workshop (formerly the CTW), who owns Ernie, Cookie and Big Bird as well. Jim never did.

B) Everything officially changed when "Old school" producer Jon Stone retired from the series in the mid-90's--
The very next season, we got Elmo's World, a new neighborhood, and a downplayed de-emphasis on ABC/123's, as the show tried harder to compete with Nick Jr.

C) So....this isn't a thread about the two-volume "Old School" Sesame set on DVD (pretty much recycling the limited rotation of "classics" that already aired on old-school Noggin), then?

Does anybody know if "baker" segment #1 (the one which the baker falls and drops a large wedding cake down the stairs) even exists anymore? , I've heard about it and seen pics but can't find it anywhere, not even on youtube! It must be the holy grail of Sesame Street segments! I've definatly seen 2-10. I used to watch Sesame Street in the late 70's and never even remember seeing it! These segments were directed by the late Jim Henson who also did the baker's voice, but the baker himself was a stuntman.

Found Baker #1 on http://www.sesamestreet.org it's in the classic clips section, enjoy, THIS IS A VERY RARE SEGMENT ONLY HAS BEEN AIRED A FEW TIMES,AND THE BOY THAT SAY'S "ONE PENNY" IS JIM HENSON'S SON BRIAN, HENSON IS THE BAKER'S VOICE AT THE END, AFTER ALL HE DIRECTED ALL 10 SEGMENTS! Also check out the "Mad Painter" films that star the late Paul Benedict, a young Stockard Channing appears in some of them, 3 is my favorite, the picnic sketch.
