I am buying a US PS3 and want to make sure I can watch Blu Ray and DVDs that I buy over here without any problems? Is there anything I should know before buying etc?

Chances are you will need a voltage converter and an adapter for the plug for the PlayStation 3 hardware to work in the first place.

Onto the other issue: will UK/European Blu-rays and games be playable on the US PlayStation 3?

Games from any region will play on any region PlayStation 3 with no problems. However, Blu-ray movies may be another issue. I believe Europe is Region B encoded and the US is Region A encoded. Now, some European Blu-ray releases are not region locked. However, you will be SOL if they start increasing the number of region locked movies in Europe unless you plan to buy all your Blu-ray discs from the US.

The PS3 PSU is universal, 110/240V so no adapter is required.

The Blu-ray region is different from the US but most UK films are region free anyway, far more than those released in the US, which tend to be locked. Besides, Amazon.com ships to the UK and they are far cheaper that buying from the UK.

DVD's are a different issue, most UK releases will NOT play in a US PS3.

Are you sure about that? They use a totally different frequency. It's 50Hz and 230V in Europe vs. our standard 240V and 60Hz here. It's possible that the power supply is capable of switching though. Definitely will need a new power cable.
