USA Dynamo (1978) (The Pearl River Collection) - April 14, 2020

Following the release of The Leg Fighters, the next release in VCI's imprint The Pearl River Collection will be Dynamo (1978) starring Bruce Li. The transfer will be sourced from a 35MM uncut English print, but also include 16MM alternate cut sourced from a 2K scan.

Quote:
When a cab driver is discovered by corrupt producers as a successor to super star Bruce Lee, they find his rebellious and individual nature may be too much for even their massive enterprise to contain. This fan favorite in the sub-genre of Bruceploitation stars Ho Tsung-Tao (Bruce Li), Ku Feng and Chiang Tao. Directed by The Super Inframan helmer, Hua Shan.
Quote:
Bonus Materials
  • NEW 2K RESTORATION OF ORIGINAL UNCUT 35MM ENGLISH PRINT
  • Bonus 2K scan from a 16mm alternate cut

  • The Taiwan Connection - Michael Worth’s Journey to Meet a childhood idol: Bruce Li (15-minute original documentary)
  • Kung Fu Reborn: Featurette on restoration and preservation of Kung Fu film elements
  • Drawing Dynamo: featurette on cover artist Ian McEwan
  • Theatrical Trailer to Dynamo

VCI already announced that the next release in the Pearl River Collection will be Richard Yeung Keun's Duel of the Seven Tigers.

one of Bruce Li's better films. i do wish that Chinese Connection 2 (aka Fists Of Fury 2 ) would turn up as that is perhaps his best along with Edge Of Fury whcih is also excellent

I can confirm that FOF 2 is already in the works. Michael Worth's 35mm print was actually combined with Quentin Tarantino's 35mm print recently for a new 2K scan. Will be part of a slate of Bruceploitation films that Worth and others have been unearthing and producing.

SEVEN TIGERS and I believe AWAKEN THE PUNCH OF DEATH have both been tapped on Pearl River for the next releases.

For Dynamo? No. There are several languages on it. German and Spanish too I think.

Yes, I guess VCI owns PUNCH negative so they just want to make sure it gets on their line up. Seven tigers is a great film in my opinion. Rumor is they are pulling a few more of Worth’s prints of some Dragon Lee films (Martial Monks and Deadly Silver Ninja I think) plus Worth has worked out something with Tarantino’s collection coming out this fall.

But I know FURY 2 is on its way with some Bruce Li and Lee Tso Nam interviews Worth got. That’s pretty cool.

i'd love to hear/see an interview with Lee Tso Nam as he is one of my fav old school kung fu directors. Martial Monks Of Shaolin Temple is another must have title

There are only a few snippets on The Leg Fighters with Lee but is part of a much longer series of interviews Worth got with him for both a book he is doing as well as an upcoming documentary on the Bruce Lee Exploitation era. Worth I saw somewhere owns a 35mm print of Martial Monks so maybe it will see the light of day! I think Pearl River has Duel of the Seven Tigers and Punch coming next but has also indicated they are trying to pull elements for Seven Commandments together. Lee's Exit The Dragon I also know has recently been scanned in 2k too.

Tarantino's own personal film print collection. On the latest episode of the Pure Cinema Podcast, Tarantino and Dan Halsted talk about their personal collection of old school martial arts film prints. It is a really interesting episode.

I hope The Lama Avenger (AKA The Three Avengers) comes to blu-ray one day. There's a decent copy up on Amazon now, but it would be nice to have a physical blu-ray....and to have one with any substantial special features would be amazing!

Sounds like a botch on the picture quality, which is sad as THE LEG FIGHTERS looked fine.
