Baz Luhrmann today has a birthday, and his next film. Warner Bros has confirmed to Deadline that Luhrmann’s next feature film at the studio will be the one he’s calling Jehanne or Jehanne d’Arc. It is an epic story about Joan of Arc, the young French peasant who believed God had sent her to lead an army. She believed she would save her country during the Hundred Years War.

I've always liked Luc Besson's adaption The Messenger, even though it gets a bit creative in the third act with Dustin Hoffman's character.

Geez, Baz Luhrmann's face now after all the cosmetic surgery he's had done... :/

Author Thomas Keneally (Schindler's List), whose book Blood Red, Sister Rose is the source material, has spoken about the project:

Joan of Arc is a ripping yarn about a strange young girl wearing men’s clothes and claiming divine visions who swept into the centre of power and upended everything. Baz’s vision is the same as mine. We see how relevant the story’s themes are today. I see Greta Thunberg as a modern-day Joan. There are certainly people out there who’d like to see her burnt at the stake.

At this point, you could take any other movie Lurhmann has done, digitally replace the lead character with Joan of Arc, and it's going to be the same thing as what he's going to end up with anyway.
