Default Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’: Lisbeth Salander standalone TV series (Amazon)

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’: Lisbeth Salander standalone TV series in the works at Amazon.

Quote:
Amazon is developing a series centered on Lisbeth Salander, the character created by Stieg Larsson for the so-called Millenium books.

The project, which is currently titled “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” will not be a sequel or continuation of the story from the books or the films into which they were adapted. It will instead take Salander and place her in today’s world with a wholly new setting, new characters, and a new story.

No writer or lead actress is currently attached to the series. Andy Harries, founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures, will executive produce along with Rob Bullock. Amazon Studios and Left Bank will produce in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Harries’ extensive list of past executive producer credits include “Quiz,” “The Crown” “Strike Back,” and “Outlander.” Bullock was also an executive producer on “Strike Back” as well as the YouTube series “Origin.” He has also produced shows like “The Night Manager” and “Wild at Heart.”

Salander is the primary character of the Millennium book series, of which Larsson had completed three before his death — “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.” David Lagercrantz then took over writing for the characters, publishing the books ” The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” “The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye,” and “The Girl Who Lived Twice.” The books have sold more than 100 million copies combined worldwide.

Salander has also been portrayed by multiple actresses onscreen in the past. In the Swedish film trilogy based on the first three books, she is played by Noomi Rapace as an adult and by Tehilla Blad as a child. Rooney Mara then played her in the 2011 American adaptation of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” while Claire Foy played her in the 2018 film adaptation of “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

In before all the Michael Scott 'NOOOO' memes.

This could be horrible - anything can - but it could be pretty freaking interesting too.

Color me intrigued.

I would watch. There was so much from the books left out of the movies.

I always wanted a Fincher-directed sequel to his GWTDT film. That was a darn good movie. Oh well.

Sure, it could turn out to be more Bates Motel than Hannibal but I can certainly see why somebody would want to try it.

Definitely something that needs a tv series. The books are massive and could easily go for a few series

A very sad outcome to what started as an exceptionel and unique IP.

Well, unless it's good, of course.

I love the books

I would watch this.

The new books with the different author are readable but not as good as the trilogy.

I also like Fincher's movie better than the Swedish one but I own both on bluray.

I liked parts of the latest film with Claire Foy but it's average overall, Fincher really captured the spirit of the first book for me.

Amazon has really caught up to Netflix. Bosch is one of my favorite shows, I love the books and would buy it on bluray if a complete series comes out.

I paid in advance for Disney+ for 3 years for the Marvel shows but except for Mandalorian nothing else has come on! I'm pretty sure I won't renew. I also have every movie on D+ and I'll probably buy The Fighting Prince of Donegal on itunes in SD since its not even on D+, the one movie I don't have on DVD or Bluray!

How hard is it to just adapt the novels?! They have six fantastic books to work off of that do tell one whole story over the course of them. I don't get why this is so hard? Adapt them into films like the Fincher adaptation, or follow the Swedish model and break the books up into episodes for a chronological TV series following the novels.

I just get don't it. I've loved this series since it first came out and I am confounded by the directions they keep taking this series. Just stopppppp

There's apparently a rush of people here who can't read. They aren't adapting the books into a series. They're doing whatever the hell they want while slapping Lisbeth into it. Maybe it'll be good, maybe it won't. Can't say I care too much though right now.

That's fair, we have no idea how it will actually turn out. I've been positively surprised before (and observe as my initial skepticism commits seppuku), latest with HBOs Watchmen.

Larsson was a very capable investigative reporter, not least motivated by his very strong resentment to social and political injustices he found in both Sweden and Worldwide. His three Millennium novels, the three Swedish films as well as Fincher's film, are testaments to this.

Lagercrantz's new novels and the 2018 film, are largely devoid of any socio-political commentary or controversy, probably because no one involved with their creation shares Larsson's passion and drive. Lisbeth Salander has been reduced to your standard kick-ass heroine of the sort you'll find in 20 other films or tv-shows every year now. Her character arc was arguably completed in the third book, so everything since just feels like add-ons to something that didn't need any in the first place. That might be why Salander was also reduced to basically a supporting character in one of Lagercrantz's books; the character has been drained.

Without Larsson's input, I don't really see where they can go with the character, but I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong on this one.

I've only gotten as far as Spider's Web and I'd say one fantastic book, two good to very good books and one okay book.

Spider's Web was a decent enough read but it was almost a comic book-y version of a Bond (which can be comic book-y enough to begin with). The movie was actually better than I expected and a movie franchise turning Lisbeth into more a Bond-like action hero could have been (and still could be) okay if done right but I'm intrigued by at least the possibility that this series could be more character driven.
