1. Poison Heart- Quite a somber track. Makes me like it even more when I found out how it was written/the band acquired it, you can definitely feel the pain in Dee Dee's lyrics. Released in the tail end of their career, but among the strongest tracks they've ever recorded. Adios Amigos may have been their last official album, but this was very much their swan song.
2. My Back Pages- Off an album from a band that was well past their prime, but some solid covers. Joey's voice was on it's last legs at this point, but CJ's was surprisingly very fitting and suited this song perfectly. He was the logical replacement for Dee Dee. 3. Have You Ever Seen the Rain?- Granted, Joey sounded pretty rough in the later days, but damn if this isn't an awesome cover! The band was getting ready to wind down as far back as 1993, as evidenced by releasing an all-covers album, but this was one of the few shining moments in a band that was a sinking ship by then. 4. Chasing the Night- One of the more complex and intricate tracks they've ever done, that's for sure. Too Tough to Die was a return to form for the band and Richie gave them the kick in the ass that they needed. 5. My Brain is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg)- The anti-Reagan song. Definitely did not help Joey's relationship with the uber conservative Johnny Ramone. It's very ambitious, I remember first hearing it in School of Rock. 6. I Wanna Be Well- What can I say, it's classic Ramones. It's repetitive, it's got a good hook and it's catchy. Their finest period. One of their best albums too. 7. Too Tough to Die- Like I mentioned above, it was a return to form. Marky was out, Richie was in and they were writing some of the best songs of their career. The most-Ramones sounding album since Road to Ruin, after the last three albums they had something to prove and this was it. 8. Smash You- Another one of Richie's contributions and you can tell. How this did not end up on the official album is beyond me. Ended up in the setlists at the time too. 1984-1987 was such an underrated period for the band, rivaling the albums/tracks of the classic Ramones era. |
