Seventy-five movies to be released on Blu-ray in Japan

29 August 2006 - US Movie studios have finally announced which films they will be releasing on Blu-ray discs in Japan.

More than a dozen studios, including Disney, Sony, Paramount, Warner Bros., and Fox, will first release about 75 movies on Blu-ray later this year.

The lineup will include Sony’s “The Da Vinci Code”, and Disney’s “Chicken Little”.

Blu-ray is backed by Sony and Panasonic and is supported by Hitachi, Sharp, Pioneer, Samsung, Apple, and Dell; the discs feature much more storage capacity than rival format HD DVD.

With the new releases, plus the addition of Universal, which has previously not released Blu-ray titles, about 80 percent of high-def films will be on Blu-ray discs.
Umm, did they let something slip???? Is Universal going Blu-ray as well?

Typo maybe? Or is the addition of Universal coming on Thursday? Thursday can't come fast enough for me... Luckily Germany is hours ahead of the US, so I should be able to get the news as soon as I wake up.

Default Universal now with Blu-ray?

Ok, here is another "typo" in another article. Man, do these news people know something we don't? The suspense is killing me!

More than a dozen studios announced in Tokyo yesterday that 75 films would be added to the Blu-ray roster, including The Da Vinci Code and Chicken Little, although only two of these, Warner and Paramount, also plan releases for HD DVD, alongside Universal which has until now eschewed Blu-ray.
If I keep seeing this, I'm venturing to say that Universal will be in the Blu-ray camp and this is the big announcement for Thursday.

Please be true. Please be true. Please be true.

If Universal is joining Blu-ray this year I'm putting the brakes on my HD DVD purchases.

The end of the year could be very exciting... The acquisition of Universal, the launch of BD50, and full studio support of VC-1 (except Sony), could all be major factors in this format 'war'. I'm beginning to get excited! This could be my greatest christmas ever.

Very interesting typos there. Though it doesn't look like todays press release says anything about universal coming over to blu-ray.

Blu Ray is exclusive to big Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi (known more for their cars in US and Europe, however they are slowly making a presence in US electronics market with HDTVs, and Air conditioning units), Matsushita ( Panasonic elsewhere else), and of course Sony (self explanitory).

If Universal wants to release HD movies in Japan, it has to be Blu-Ray.

If Sony sells it's out it's projected 2 Million Units of PS3's, which I beleive is a peice of cake. HD-DVD will go the way of the dodo bird. (extinction)
