Arrow 3D Screenshots Thread

There's already a thread for sharing normal Blu-ray screenshots; so why not 3D ones? It could be helpful in allowing people to decide whether they want to buy the disc or not by providing a taste of the depth on the disc.

For navigation convenience, here are links directly to the posts with screenshots:
47 Ronin: This post
The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Amityville 3-D
Bait
Conan the Barbarian
Creature from the Black Lagoon
Dial M for Murder
Dredd
Drive Angry
The Final Destination
Final Destination 5
Gods of Egypt
Godzilla
The Green Hornet
I, Frankenstein
Immortals
Jaws 3-D
Jurassic Park
The Legend of Hercules
My Bloody Valentine
Pompeii
San Andreas
Silent Hill: Revelation
Stalingrad
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

To kick things off, here are 22 shots from the 3D Blu of Carl Rinsch's 47 Ronin, which is maybe not the best example since it's pretty shallow, but still. I've included side-by-side shots in parallel format, which haven't been altered at all save for JPG compression, as well as half-color anaglyphs, which again are unaltered except for the anaglyph conversion and compression.

PLEASE NOTE - SCREENSHOTS ARE FROM ENTIRE FILM AND LATER ONES MAY CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS! I've done by best to avoid anything that gives too much away.

Also note since these are compressed JPGs they are not indicative of video quality; they're meant to offer samples of the 3D effect.

Secondly, here are 20 selected shots from the 3D Blu of Richard Fleischer's Amityville 3-D. It certainly makes much bolder use of the format that 47 Ronin, but as the screenshots help demonstrate, it's a problematic presentation with very high parallax and some fairly serious alignment and uneven fading issues. You can also see the improperly-layered main title.

PLEASE NOTE - SCREENSHOTS ARE FROM ENTIRE FILM AND LATER ONES MAY CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS! I've done by best to avoid anything that gives too much away. The "spoliest" two are under separate spoiler tags for safety.

Up third are 20 selected shots from the 3D Blu of Kimble Rendall's Bait. Another native 3D production, albeit a pretty low-budget one. There are some pretty minor alignment imperfections in places. Oddly, as you can see in shot 7, some visual effects are not correctly matched between eyes (see the splash of water against the curb on the right side of the frame.) Shot 6 shows off how awful the (thankfully very sparse) converted footage looks.

Fourth are 20 selected shots from the 3D Blu of Marcus Nispel's Conan the Barbarian reboot. It was shot as a 2D film and had 3D "slapped on," without prior planning, in post-production. The conversion is very uneven, which is to be expected since no fewer than EIGHT(!) different conversion vendors worked on it. Some shots, primarily landscapes, look quite nice. Most of the movie is generally pretty shallow but passable. The worst bits are full of obvious conversion errors.

Here are 20 selected shots from the 3D Blu of Michael J. Bassett's Silent Hill: Revelation. It's a natively-shot production that's mostly done quite well in that regard, though I must restate my opinion (shared by many) that, even as a fan of the first movie, Revelation is an absolutely awful film. I don't even own my copy anymore; these shots were taken years ago.

Here are 20 more 3D Blu shots, this time from Renny Harlin's The Legend of Hercules. Another pretty dire film with pretty good 3D. Unlike Brett Ratner's competing Hercules film, it's a native 3D production. That said, there are some converted bits scattered throughout, and they're very sloppily done - see shots 5 and 7 for examples. Also note what appears to be a shutter phase mismatch issue in shot 16; the rain does not match between eyes as it has fallen further in one than in the other. There are a handful of shots in the climax that exhibit this error.

And keeping with the sword-and-sandals theme, 20 shots from the 3D Blu of Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii. It's surprisingly shallow in many places but does offer a handful of very nice eye candy, mainly during the inevitable eruption.

Riding on the hype train for this summer's sequel, here are 20 3D shots from Jonathan Liebesman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's a conversion, but a fully-planned one that generally works quite well and has an impressive level of depth (by modern standards). As to the quality and character of the film itself - it's probably enough to say that while Michael Bay was just one of the producers, it feels very much like a movie he made himself.

Moving on, here are 20 shots from the 3D Blu of Stuart Beattie's I, Frankenstein. From the same producer and co-writer as the Underworld series, it comes across very much as a (substantially stupider) cousin of that franchise and was actually intended to cross over with it until it became a spectacular flop. It's plot-hole filled junk, but the action and visuals are decent enough for a casual watch and it can be had very, very cheap.

The 3D is a conversion and wasn't planned during filming, but with that in mind it came out pretty well. The shooting style was a good fit for the format and there are a lot of particle effects that fly around the screen in z-space. It's not especially deep, but it never completely flattens out (at least that I noticed).

In anticipation of the release of Godzilla: Resurgence later this year (at least in Japan), here are 20 shots from the 3D Blu of Gareth Edwards' Godzilla. It's a conversion, though there's conflicting information as to whether it was planned and to what extent. Either way, there's no real significant "pop-out" aside from a handful of particles, but depth is generally pretty good.

Since he's about to be re-rebooted in Captain America: Civil War, here are 20 shots from the 3D Blu of the webhead's last do-over, Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. There are a couple of cool pop-outs, but for the most part, the production has a (deserved) reputation for being fairly shallow.

With this weekend's release of Gods of Egypt, I thought this would be a good time to trot out these 20 shots from the 3D Blu of a fellow mythological adventure, Tarsem Singh's Immortals. While mostly converted, it was always planned in 3D, and generally makes pretty good use of the format. Sadly, there are some pretty obvious conversion errors in places. These screenshots were taken years ago for personal use and don't include any examples of that; I no longer own a copy of the movie.

If you're able to do wall-eyed parallel viewing (like Magic Eye pictures) then you should be able to use the side-by-side screenshots without glasses.

Information on glasses-free viewing

Otherwise you'll need a 3D compatible display for them, or red-cyan anaglyph 3D glasses for the anaglyph versions of the shots.

Here are selected shots from the 3D Blu of Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder. Only 15 this time, since I had to be very careful about spoilers (and most of the movie takes place in the same set anyway). Obviously a fully-native production, the Blu-ray release offers an excellent presentation with perfect sync and near-perfect alignment. Unlike many of the 50's 3D movies, this one only has exactly two pop-out moments - one shown below, the other not due to spoilers.

And 20 shots from the other vintage 3D title I own, Creature from the Black Lagoon. This one makes much more aggressive use of 3D than Dial M, but unfortunately it's also a more problematic presentation. As can be seen most clearly in screenshot 6, there are many shots in the film that have baked-in sync issues between the eyes caused by phase issues (improper shutter synchronization that amounts to fractions of a frame). There are also some alignment issues in different parts of the film, though they're never extreme and watching the movie is generally comfortable.

Not actually vintage, but a period piece, here are 20 shots from the 3D Blu of Fedor Bondarchuk's Stalingrad. The first Russian movie to be shot for exhibition in IMAX 3D (albeit without IMAX equipment, and in a scope aspect ratio), Stalingrad is surprisingly shallow in many places but always makes good compositional use of 3D and deepens up for some "showcase" shots. As to the movie itself, it's pretty much the exact film Michael Bay would have made if he did thinly-veiled Russian propaganda instead of thinly-veiled American propaganda. In fact, Michael Bay used the same stereographer on Transformers: Age of Extinction!

Awesome collection of 3D pics from the films to showcase the range of 3D, thanks UFAlien. The image file sizes are large, but once I scaled it down, no problem.

The 3D in Amityville 3D, very strong beyond what I expected.

The classics look excellent too in 3D.
