![]() ![]() A thread dedicated to smoking in movies. I've always been fascinated with cigarette smoking in movies. I don't consider myself a smoker as I only have the occasional cigar, but it just looks really cool on the silver screen, especially in film noirs. A long dialogue scene can suddenly become more visually appealing if a character lights one up, and it gives an actor a prop to play with. I remember recently there was an anti-smoking group trying to enforce R ratings on any movies that feature smoking, which is just nonsense. Things to discuss: What are your favorite smoking scenes and who are the actors that make smoking look the coolest? Have you noticed actors that don't inhale? Does it bother you if there is excessive smoking in a movie, PG rated or in general? Share your thoughts, pics, gifs, videos, whatever. Last edited by spanky87; 02-03-2018 at 03:17 PM. Just finished watching the original The Bad News Bears and JEH looks pretty cool smoking, even though he was about 11 years old at the time. Lol when I saw this film as a kid it made me want to puff away while playing sandball baseball with my friends. Those were the days.

iScottie beat me to it...
![]() All of the classic-era film noirs prominently feature cigarettes and smoking, but Out of the Past takes it to a new level. I love the scene where Kirk Douglas offers Robert Mitchum the cigarette, Mitchum holds up the cigarette in his own hand, and says, "Smoking." I do not smoke. I have zero tolerance for cigarette smoke, and I generally avoid public places where I'm exposed to secondhand smoke. Just the same, I love the aesthetic that the cigarette smoke brings to old black-and-white movies. |

Reality Bites
A great scene with Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke just talking and smoking. "This is all we need. A couple of smokes, a cup of coffee, and a little bit of conversation. You and me and five bucks." Lots of smoking throughout the film and Winona looks cute doing it. ![]() |

I also like the fact that the Poirot TV-Show have him smoke, like in the novels:
