I love that they're using the art from the alternate (superior) poster.

Here's hoping "nouveau master" means something better than the Drafthouse release.

It will use the same master as the Drafthouse release.

ESC's forthcoming blu of Abel Ferrara's Fear City will however use a new master (release April 9th)

Goodbye old master with low quality uncut inserts in the wrong ratio

Is that been verify already by the distributor? I don't believe that Fear City is having HD treatment from UNRATED version before I see it with my own eyes.

Sorry the off topic one more time, but I would like to add one thing more which I forget yesterday, IF the upcoming release of FEAR CITY does include the unrated version in HD (not up scaled unrated inserts!), I do hell hope that they won't use any forced subs in english audio track. That would be absolutely retarded decision with this one as there is so many who would love to buy this I'm sure.

You realize that forced subs are often part of the licensing deal, right?

Of course. I just hate the idea of otherwise great release having forced subtitles. Anyway, I'll buy the release right that moment when someone verifies to me, that it's unrated in HD (and no up scaled inserts) with no forced subs.

Yeah 'cause that would be obviously up to the label.

Instead of being so sceptical when I post info, how about you do some of the work yourself, instead of throwing doubt on what I post Seriously, I don't know why I bother sometimes.

I just got confirmation that the ESC blu will be the uncut European version, 100% in HD. All region blu, no forced subs

Well, I'll "throwing doubts" like anybody else here, you can be sure about that. FYI, I wasn't "attacking" you any way. I just love the movie, and thought that it would be a shame if those things that I mention before would be something else.

If you got confirmation somewhere (like you said) that the ESC blu-ray will be the uncut European version, 100% in HD, that is a GREAT news indeed. With that in mind, let's see what the status will be with those subs? I'm really hoping too see those been optional, then I'm most likely in.

CHINA GIRL is also getting a mediabook release from ESC.
Anyone know if it’s the same transfer as the old French Blu-ray ?

Not wanting to be be the gloom merchant here but I would rein in your expectations on this! ESC released a terrible disc of Bava's Whip & The Body recently, despite claiming it was to be a new restoration it was the worst of all botched releases out there. If they do manage to do this justice then it'll be a pleasant surprise...

Just curious. I read that the ESC uses the same master, but how do you know it's the worst of the existing releases?

Where would this forum be without the shared eye rolling of this pair?
I expect on days when they don't post they must meet up at their local "c*nts convention"

How ya doing Hammerman, phelings and whatever. Your life still so empty that you have to make a sock account to insult forum members?

You pathetic individual. After all these years, you still haven't gotten a life. Wow.

Still waiting for you to provide links. caps and reviews would be nice to back up what you're saying, regarding whip and the body.

Amazon reviews don't count, by the way.

Wow I didn't realise I was time limited to reply, especially when I had no idea anyone replied to my post. I don't use the forum as a second home, so apologies it hasn't come to my attention sooner. I have no means of providing caps and I'm certainly not doing busy-work to find reviews for you, I'm sure you're perfectly capable of doing so yourself (counting Amazon reviews if you so desire!)
As Bava is one of my favourite directors and La Frusta being one of my favourite films of his, I have all available Blu-ray releases and all are varying degrees of abominations (IMO). I have the UK, US, Spanish, German and this latest release by ESC. Of those, the preferred (still not recommendable IMO) is the German as they've tried to do the best they can (which isn't much!). This ESC release seems to be from the same source as the Spanish release (and not the others) with added sharpening, LRI mosquito scanner nonsense, and contrast boosting (to try and balance out the darkness), there's also questionable colour choices with bleeding. Our only hope is that Screenbound/Odeon (who didn't even have the Italian track) lose the UK rights and hopefully Arrow can pick it up and have a new restoration with access to the negative - it's one of Bava's finest, important and beautiful films and it's a damned travesty that it's been treated so badly!
