Is that been verify already by the distributor? I don't believe that Fear City is having HD treatment from UNRATED version before I see it with my own eyes.

Sorry the off topic one more time, but I would like to add one thing more which I forget yesterday, IF the upcoming release of FEAR CITY does include the unrated version in HD (not up scaled unrated inserts!), I do hell hope that they won't use any forced subs in english audio track. That would be absolutely retarded decision with this one as there is so many who would love to buy this I'm sure.

Of course. I just hate the idea of otherwise great release having forced subtitles. Anyway, I'll buy the release right that moment when someone verifies to me, that it's unrated in HD (and no up scaled inserts) with no forced subs.

If you got confirmation somewhere (like you said) that the ESC blu-ray will be the uncut European version, 100% in HD, that is a GREAT news indeed. With that in mind, let's see what the status will be with those subs? I'm really hoping too see those been optional, then I'm most likely in. |

CHINA GIRL is also getting a mediabook release from ESC.
Anyone know if it’s the same transfer as the old French Blu-ray ? |

Not wanting to be be the gloom merchant here but I would rein in your expectations on this! ESC released a terrible disc of Bava's Whip & The Body recently, despite claiming it was to be a new restoration it was the worst of all botched releases out there. If they do manage to do this justice then it'll be a pleasant surprise...

As Bava is one of my favourite directors and La Frusta being one of my favourite films of his, I have all available Blu-ray releases and all are varying degrees of abominations (IMO). I have the UK, US, Spanish, German and this latest release by ESC. Of those, the preferred (still not recommendable IMO) is the German as they've tried to do the best they can (which isn't much!). This ESC release seems to be from the same source as the Spanish release (and not the others) with added sharpening, LRI mosquito scanner nonsense, and contrast boosting (to try and balance out the darkness), there's also questionable colour choices with bleeding. Our only hope is that Screenbound/Odeon (who didn't even have the Italian track) lose the UK rights and hopefully Arrow can pick it up and have a new restoration with access to the negative - it's one of Bava's finest, important and beautiful films and it's a damned travesty that it's been treated so badly! |
