Germany The Last Unicorn 3D Blu-ray (1982) [Region Free] [Germany only]

Has anybody seen this? It seems reasonably priced from Amazon.de at about 22.13 with shipping.

Considering it's an older film that wasn't made in 3D and you're looking at a German release, I'm guessing it's one of those awful hard-encoded auto conversions that the country is infamous for. You should be able to get essentially the same effect by turning on the conversion feature of your player or TV.

I have seen it. 3D is not too impressive. If you already own the 2D version, I wouldn't bother.

Since this film has been mentioned in other threads, I thought I'd bump the dedicated thread with my comments from when I last watched the film:

This is a German conversion, but one of the better ones - it appeared to have a bit more thought put into it, the effect is along the lines of Disney's animated conversions. I'm sure there was even some pop out. I hadn't seen the film before, it has a real dark dreamy 80s vibe, a quality voice cast and the 3D just makes it even more interesting. If you're buying random animated 3D movies from Germany, I reckon this isn't a bad one to add to your collection.

I imported this a few months ago - just as a heads up, the conversion isn't great.

Nice animation in the film. But yeah, I would hold off buying it for 3D if it's a weak auto-conversion based on the feedback above. I only have the 2D blu ray from years ago that I bought cheap brand new.

I doubt that this will be any different from the existing version, other than the mediabook packaging and bonus disc.

I think I´ll be getting this for a friend.
No booklet included?
At least nothing is mentioned.

Ich habe zwar schon selbst die reguläre 3D Blu-ray, aber egal.
Der Preis ist in Ordnung mit 28,50€ inklusive Versand.

If it's a mediabook, it will have a booklet incorporated in the packaging. That's what a mediabook is - the clue is in the name!

Of course I know, but usually the number of pages of the booklet that comes with the mediabook is mentioned and here there is zero info.

I received my copy here in Germany of the new 3D/2D mediabook edition quoted below.

The Astro cover artwork is limited/numbered to 250 copies and only this edition comes with the bonus film Red Dust on a separate Blu-ray.

The regional coding is A, B, C (printed on the back).

Here´s my unboxing:

I watched this at the weekend, very enjoyable early 80's fantasy animation. The 3D is surprisingly well done if you go in with the knowledge that this is a German conversion that has clearly had at least some human input. The layers are generally well conveyed and even though there is warping galore, the fact that it is animated makes this effect far less egregious than it would be if it were live action.

I would definitely recommend this in 3Dif you can pick it up at a reasonable price and whilst i'm not a huge fan of animation/ cartoons, this is a pretty satisfying fantasy in its own right so that certainly helps. It reminds me of the kind of cartoons I watched as a kid.

I would recommend the film itself without hesitation, I love it, but I found the 3D a bit sloppily done. There is plenty of separation, but I just guess I found the ‘warping’ you mention more distracting than you did. But yeah, if it’s not expensive I’d still recommend it just because it’s a great film IMHO.

Yes the clumsy warping can't be denied but I personally think due to the style of animation I was able to forgive it a bit. If this had been live action it would look awful!

Having something like this in 3D is a nice treat, even if there's room for improvement with the conversion.
