Epic Games Store - Blu-ray Forum

Epic Games Store still has a lot to be desired compared to Steam Store in terms of features and user-friendliness, but a couple of things happened recently that made me decide to try it out.

It is having a sale from May 16 to June 13. Not only many games have deep discounts, but also any game that costs $14.99 and up gets another $10 discount (i.e. $14.99 becomes $4.99, $25 become $15, and so on). This kind of deal is unheard of even in Steam and elsewhere.

The second thing is that some highly desired games that used to be exclusive to consoles are now coming to PC via exclusive deals (for a year) in the Epic Games Store. Games like Journey, Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain, and Detroit: Become Human are all coming to Epic Store or are already available. If this trend continues, I may have to spend quite a sum on Epic since I don't own consoles and have no desire to. The rumored PC release of Red Dead Redemption 2 may go a similar route.

Epic Store has got a lot of bad press for its consumer-unfriendly practices of PC exclusive releases. But I don't blame a new service for trying to gain new customers. Steam's early days weren't so hot either. It takes a long time for service to become good. How else to attract customers in these early days except selling games that only you can sell?

The Epic Store client indeed is no comparison against the Steam Client. There is no wishlist, no reviews, no discussion boards, severe lack of game info that doesn't even tell you what genre it is, no link to a developer's list of games, can't browse by category, best-selling, price, etc., and the browser interface doesn't even let you go back to the previous page.

The biggest problem remains to be the minuscule number of games compared to what Steam offers. If 90% of games are still only available on Steam and not your store, then you ain't competing with Steam at all.

Not to mention their security is complete trash.
