Maybe they used the previous DVD master bearing the logo in a 4:3 frame, and it got cropped in the BD

Good catch. So the logo is at least intermittently present on the BD. Always reliable in this regard, Shame-aroo.

ShameAroo is by far the worst Bollywood home video company. Period. Ultra being a close second.

I would put it the reverse. Shemaroo at least in their NFDC tie-up do some decent DVD releases. Ultra is almost inevitably Ultra-bad.

Do note that those NFDC movies are usually restored by other studios. All Shemaroo does is encode the material onto DVD (which is something they manage to mess up as well) :P

Default Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) BR from Shemaroo - SSs

Watched this on blu-ray. The Shemaroo logo appears from time to time. Picture quality is solid - but the sound quality of this BD is really terrible. They have used a heavy dose of digital sound cleaning so you have that swirly metallic noise going on throughout the movie.

Background sounds are muffled and compressed. Simply terrible!

I’m a fan of this film’s music and that experience was totally ruined for me due to the horrible treatment of the sound quality.

I thought that I would hate the cropping and re-framing. It isn’t that noticeable. I found that cropping to be really jarring while watching some of Sangam - but it isn’t as noticeable in SSS. I don’t know if this is because the film was shot with more relief in the frame or whether I didn’t really care either way (this really isn’t what I would call a great film - music aside). I did appreciate Zeenat Aman’s acting in some of the scenes. She really did justice to the character that she was playing.

A couple of other strange things I noticed. The climax of the movie has some extra pieces which haven’t been in any versions of the movie that I have seen so far. These seem to be quite rough (sound doesn’t match the scene). Also it has some definite cuts. The whole end piece of the Satyam Shivam Sunderam climax song is missing. To be honest - it was a pretty silly scene anyway but the cut towards the end of the song was rather abrupt.

This is definitely one to avoid. Even if you love the movie - the sound quality is so bad that it ruins the whole experience.

Finally - this is the first ever BD that I have that has issues with playing. There is some dimple/dent in the the disc and the start credits of the movie will not play.

Post Is Shemaroo coming out with a DVD of this version ??

Is Shemaroo coming out with a DVD of this version ??
In case of SSS, 4:3 full picture is a must. So was for Mera Naam Joker. Mera Naam Joker had the 4:3 DVD release (and so did Sangam) I wonder if SSS will also be out in 4:3 DVD.

For Mera Naam Joker and SSS, picture is ruined by cutting at the top and bottom.
Sangam (cutting at top and bottom) is passable.

Got Sangam DVD (new version) and it is Progressive

Mera Naam Joker DVD is on its way.

Would love to get new version SSS DVD if and when available.

Believe me, despite getting Shemaroo BR and DVD, for my personal viewing, I will prefer watching DVD.
For show off, play Blue Ray.
