The old DVD has a 12 certificate but this new Blu-ray is 15. I wonder why the rating has changed? That means I can no longer show it to my pupils!

Sometimes special features bump the rating up.

Does anyone know if this transfer is ported from Criterion? To me Universal is a bit of hit and miss in that department. Nice cover, though. :-)

Perhaps, but I get the impression that Universal has shaped up lately. Their 'rectified' Out Of Africa-release this year, for example. As well as Gladiator-reissue many years back. It should mean that they'd be aware that overuse of DNR is not a desired thing among viewers.

One can only hope.

I suppose it's a matter of taste, but I think the new OoA is vastly superior to the first issue, and digital artifacts considerably less outspoken. I felt that textures actually were visible with OoA so DNR cannot have been overzealous. It is not perfect, but I have a notion that blu-ray producers, even Universal, are getting more light-handed with their digital improvement tools because of consumer complaints. But I may be in the dark.

I'll check out the German edition of Walkabout.

I'm getting keen on getting the Criterion release, after all. There were supposed to be some problems with that disc with certain players. Anyone knowing anything about that? I own an Oppo BDP-95EU.

Never mind. Found it online. Apparently, replacements were issued already in 2010, so faulty Criterion discs shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Got mine today from Amazon. No slipcase, but quite nice reversible sleeve - one side is the orange design seen earlier in this thread, the other a more blue design. No extras on the disc at all.
