Default Fox announces new Independance Day release date

Following a earlier street date delay, the aliens of 'Independence Day' will finally invade Blu-ray this March.

As previously reported, Fox postponed the originally-planned December 4 Blu-ray release of mammoth blockbuster only days before it was due to hit stores, citing last-minute quality-control issues. Now the studio has confirmed a new date for the highly-anticipated release, which will hit Blu-ray at last on March 11, 2008.

Fox has also issued final specs for 'ID4,' which include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video, a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track, plus Dolby Digital dubs

I'm really looking forward to this flick on Blu.

Unfortunately, this is yet another in a LONG line of Fox releases that majorly skimps on the existing extras, just giving us a proper presentation of the movie and some commentaries and trailers.

Most of their 2007 lineup smacks of double-dipping, and it seems this trend is to continue into 2008. These are more rental versions than true collectible editions.

Which is probably why I've held out on buying the Die Hard films, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and so many others. It's a pity, really. How come they got everything right with The Fly, of all films?

Yeah and another disc with none of the special features of the 5 star dvd. I may not watch the special features often but I want a complete edition, I just like knowing they are there. Especially when they exist and Fox is too lazy to port them over.

I differ...

I just want great PQ and lossless audio...

the only thing I could get burned on is an extended edition....and that is why I haven't purchased Fantastic Four yet...they need to remaster that one..

That's what I am upset about. I am not sure if I'll be purchasing this or not because of that. And the lack of features doesn't help at all. But I wouldn't have minded so much had they released it with the extended edition on the disc.

I'm not a fan of special features. I just like having the movie. But with what they are charging their BD's, you'd expect more.

Thats just crap they don't bring out the extended edition! That also goes for Black hawk down, Lotr, ect. I'll just keep them on DVD and wait if or when they bring out the extended editions of different movies!

I am just a little surprised they pushed this title back so far, and then took out all the special features, kind of weird. I figured they were taking the time not only to fix any compatibility issues, but also to add some nice features for fans of it.

I agree about the lack of the extended edition.

This reeks of a double-dip, and the only way I'm buying this is during a BOGO or some other sale.

It's too early to be criticizing because there's still 2 1/2 months left. In fact, it probably will be the extended edition even though it's not stated; it's better to wait a little longer until they release more info

Why would it probably be the extended edition? Don't you think they'd want to tell people about that? Fox has screwed over Blu-Ray supporters before with lack of features (Night at the Museum anyone?). I'm not saying it's going to happen again, but I wouldn't hold my breath for them to really come through on this one.

I don't think there is an extended edition of ID4...

There is. I own in on DVD and actually quite enjoy some of the extra scenes. It's about 9 minutes extra if I remember correctly.

If this Blu doesn't have it, I will most likely hold out as I am with Mr and Mrs Smith and Fantastic Four.

The 5 Star DVD has the extended version.

They also play the extended version when they show ID4 on Fox Movie Channel.

And I actually like the extended edition of this one. It didn't feel like pointless scenes added in just as a selling point (Mr. And Mrs. Smith and Fantastic Four and a bunch of Sony movies are like that for me).
