In the spirit of other threads such as "Movies Everyone Loves that you have no desire to see", what about movies that you USED to like/love but that you no longer care for?
Mine: The entire Lethal Weapon series after Part 1: When I was in high school and college I thought this was the greatest action film series of all time. Now I can't watch anything but the original without cringing. Part 1 is still a pretty good straight-up intense action thriller but the turn to Three Stooges buffoonery and lazy/slapdash plotting after that has made them age like rancid cheese. Parts 3 and 4 are essentially poorly written, embarrassing clown-shows. Aliens: Another one that used to tickle that 15-year-old adrenaline junkie sweet spot but now seems one-note. It's not a bad movie but I have lost all tolerance for the macho dick-swinging and faux-humorous frat house banter among the Marines. I just find all of the characters other than Ripley and Hicks (who has the good sense to shut the f**k up) absolutely insufferable now. Highlander: This movie. Makes. No. Sense. Sure it's enthusiastically directed but the story and scripting are absolutely moronic. Even Sean Connery's charisma can't subdue The Stupid. Speaking of which, why is there a Belgian playing a Scotsman and a Scotsman playing a Spaniard? This one's so dumb that it almost seems cruel to call it out, like making fun of a Down Syndrome kid. Nice sparky sword fights, though. Plus Queen... there's that. |
