I need some help with my Paramount Dolby Vision Titles (Arrival, Transformers Series, Baywatch, etc.) on my Apple 4K tv. I can not get these titles to play in Dolby Vision correctly. Allied and the Star Trek (new trilogy) films play in 4K Dolby Vision correctly. All other 4k Dolby Vision titles play correctly from the other studios.
Every time that I start a Paramount Dolby Vision title the screen goes blank or turns a pinkish red color with the movie playing in the background. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back will play in 4K, but it is not playing in Dolby Vision according to the pull down menu. On a side note, I can get all of these titles to play in HDR 10 by manually changing the settings on the Apple TV. I have changed my cables to no avail. I have also hooked the Apple TV directly into my set with no changes. If anyone has any of these titles, can you verify that they are playing correctly on your set in Dolby Vision. I suspect that it may be an encoding error on Apples end. Last edited by alatheous; 12-12-2017 at 03:48 PM. |

Sorry I omitted those facts.
I have a TCL-P605. My Denon Atmos home theater system is not germane to the problem since I have connected the Apple TV 4K directly to the set for testing purposes. I am using Rocketfish Premium Certified HDMI Cables. I also have premium cables from Monoprice and Amazon that I have tested. |

ok, first, a shoutout to you as I have the same tv and I love that thing! unfortunately, I don't have a 4k appletv to help you out with. I do stream from vudu, Netflix and amazon prime and I'm sure I've streamed some of those movies with no issues. it's kinda odd that it's selective with appletv for you with just those titles.
hopefully, someone with an appletv is having the same issue will jump in and say so and hopefully have a resolve for it. have you contacted apple about this? you've got plenty of warrantied support for your new 4k appletv, perhaps you should use it. if you have used that support, what have they told you? keep us posted? |

I did some more trouble shooting with the Apple TV settings this afternoon. I have finally found a solution to enable these Paramount titles to play in Dolby Vision correctly. While not my preference, I had to set the video display on the Apple TV to 4K (SDR) with Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame rate turned on.
I just switched from using the Beta Apple TV software when the final release of 11.2 comes out. When I get some extra time, I will contact Apple support about this problem. |

I contacted Apple support tonight. After working up to their second tier support, they believe that the problem lies with the automatic frame rate setting being turned on and the encoding of the particular Paramount films I am having trouble with. Their temporary solution was to turn off automatic frame rate to get the Paramount films to play. They are passing the problem on up the chain for a solution. Hopefully they will solve this problem quickly.
