Default Quite a solid Direct today (2024/6/18)

I guess most fans are going mental about the Metroid Prime 4 footage shown.
Me personally I'm mostly excited by the Wii Donkey Kong Country remaster and the new Zelda game looks highly intriguing.

I'm a JRPG guy, so Fantasian and the Dragon Quest I-III HD-2D remakes for me.

I’d say it was definitely solid given the proper context of what to expect from one this late in the console life.

I’ve never played any of the Dragon Quest games besides a few hours of XI so I’m very intrigued by the HD-2D trilogy. Also anything Zelda is always a plus for me.

Sakaguchi released a statement that he developed it thinking this is his final game. Doesn't seem to be getting pa physical release unless it's on LRG's show on Thursday.

Metroid Prime 4, Zelda, and Luigis Mansion Dark Moon HD.

The rest...meh.

So we are getting three separate Mario RPGs within a year. Interesting that Nintendo suddenly decided to lean so hard into that direction. Wonder if there is a chance that we are getting a new traditional Paper Mario in the somewhat near future? The first two so far have seemingly met or exceeded sales expectation.

I liked a lot of other stuff more than the Zelda game. That Zelda game looked like a low budget indie knock-off to me. It somehow looked a lot worse than Link's Awakening HD for the Switch, aside from Link not even being the main character in this one.

Compared to expectations and what Nintendo could have conceivably shown, I'd give it a 9/10. Given Nintendo has their arms tied, unable to show a large share of their AAA 1st party games until they unveil the Switch successor later this year, this is as good as it could have been.

For me, my favorite announcement was Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. That was one of the best Donkey Kong games, but as with most Wii games, it was always painful for me to play due almost entirely to the Wiimote nonsense. Glad we finally get upgraded graphics and are able to play the game with a proper controller.

Metroid Prime 4 coming to the Switch makes sense. They've teased Switch owners with this game for more than half a decade, so they almost have to release it for the Switch. I tend to think this will be one of those games (probably along with Tears of the Kingdom) that gets released for both Switch and Switch 2.

Glad Mario & Luigi is getting another chance. I wasn't sure that series would ever get another chance after the last few entries more or less flopped, causing AlphaDream to go bankrupt.

I've got to say, I'm not really convinced by the 3rd party outings. (To be honest, I was hoping for Silksong.)

It's probably one of those Miyazaki-type situations, where someone reaches a certain age and then each project may be their last and they'll retire after that. But they keep going anyway.

How much harder is easier is Donkey Kong Country vs Tropical Freeze? I really enjoyed the first 2 worlds of tropical Freeze but after that it as so hard and I died so much it was just a demoralizing slog.

I’d say TF is more difficult but DCKR is still more difficult than the original trilogy. If you got turned off by TF you wouldn’t like Returns I don’t think.
